Copyrights?

Here's the situation our team is facing, we are basing our game design on a long dead tv show...this show did go haywire in the start of the '90s but it was bought by mattel before it was laid to rest "R.I.P"!
I have a couple questions some of you might answer;

1. How long after the show has gone bankrupt, can you obtain the copyright for free?

2. Are big companies willing to sell a show, that went bankrupt 13 years ago?

If it's owned by a corporation, 75 years from airing. If it's an individual that owns the rights, 75 years after their death.

Of course, everything is for sale. You'll just have to contact the copyright and trademark owners and find out how much they want for it.
