Maya Texture Stretching problem

by Richard Van Stone · in Artist Corner · 06/13/2006 (7:11 pm) · 1 replies

I'm having an issue with my model's texture looking odd when placed on the model and I'm wondering if anyone has any known fixes. I'm working with Maya 5.0 and would appreciate any help that can be given. This is what the model looks like....one of the problem areas is the shoulder pad.

and this is the uv map

I'm not seeing the area of stretching that you mention; if this model is still giving you trouble could you circle the problem area on the screenshot and maybe a couple more views of it?

It's really common when first UV mapping is put a grid texture on the model. This lets you see exactly where your seams are, any stretching (if the grid boxes no longer look like boxes) and if one part of your model has more resolution than another in a way that you don't want. I would think planar projection and cylindrical projections would work really well for many parts of your model, but will still need hand adjusting.
