Elf Sorceress

A couple of conceptuals have been posted in the RW gallery. I'm looking for sexy, tough, edgy.
I think maybe a little more indication that she uses magic. Shawn put in a lot of awesome little details that I think are really cool.

I had to shake the rust off my pencil-drawing skills, but the other concept art inspired me. Here's my take on the elvish sorceress...
I'm not sure if the 'cultural identity' of the elves in RW is established yet, so I thought I'd get creative:
My sorceress is based on the somewhat traditional nature-loving type of elf. Since a sorceress on the battlefield needs to be well protected, she's wearing some finely crafted elvish plate mail with strategic coverage. Of course, she wouln't want to be encumbered by a full suit of plate, so she's supplemented it with a spell which causes vine-like plants to encircle her limbs. These vines can grow tough leaves which are flexible- but are as strong as the leather that she also wears... and can be enhanced with magic to even greater degrees of impenetrability if need be.
Her staff is made from the still-living branch of an ancient tree (magically preserved), from which she can draw on the power of the forest to enhance her spells.
____
Even if its not what you were looking for, it was fun to do some art again, and a bit of back-story to boot!

Shawn's elvish sorceress sketches are definitely cool, but they almost seem more like scouts than high powered magic users.I had to shake the rust off my pencil-drawing skills, but the other concept art inspired me. Here's my take on the elvish sorceress...

I agree with the scout for the other one is that a trigger on the staff?
its cool.
this one shouts druidess all over very sexy and highly magicical..
when this is a model it would be the one i would try first :)

I think Joel's vine woman has more of a suggestion of elven magic (earth magic).
I like the elves tho. Definitely top looking. Not as "pure" elf as I'd imagined. Is this a half-elf or a full elf race? I'd always thought that full elves were much less raunchy.

I'd say shawns are more elf ranger/thief more than magic user.I think Joel's vine woman has more of a suggestion of elven magic (earth magic).

I agree Shawn's concepts give me a feeling of archer/rogue/thief. Joel's give me a feeling of great magic power, but not sorceress power. To me Sorcery should be more of the death and destruction And the leaves and vines would drive her crazy. All 3 are awesome works of art. But my opinion is.. I prefer Joels but the leaves and vines gotta go.Just my thoughts,
Bruce

I prefer Joel's sketch, but would echo the sentiment that it's more of a "woodsy magickal" thing than the imagery "sorcery" conjours up (sorry for the pun).

I couldn't imagine the words "elf" and "sorceress" in the same sentence without the word "dark" in front.I prefer Joel's sketch, but would echo the sentiment that it's more of a "woodsy magickal" thing than the imagery "sorcery" conjours up (sorry for the pun).

Is it just me or is there something wrong with the waist right here

I did a quick draw over the way i think it should look better a bit like this

which results in this, in my opinion a more female figure.

This also does no good to the hips and the rest of the lower body.
The other one looks much better, hips are better defined still the waist also gives me a strange feeling but much less than with the one above...
This doesn't mean i don't like them they are verry good and nicely detailed this was just something that bugged me.
edit Ooops almost forgot i agree with the rest it doesn't really shouts out sorceress

Why does every war fought in every game involve porno star quality women? Why no fat balding women in mu-mus?

I like Joel's concept better but I shudder to think about modelling all those leaves and trying to keep a reasonable polycount.

I reckon the concept art is good. But it strike sme as odd for a sorceress to be wearing armor? Wouldnt they be in a robe? Or at least a long cloak.

If it were a human woman, I would agree, but Elves would not necessarily not have some sort of armor, even an organic armor on.

I hope there's no "sweatin' to the oldies" type cut sceenes...the horror...
A little armor would be cool. I don't think there's any rule that says magic users can't have armor. Maybe a little leather and lace eh? heh heh.

Evil race of fat, balding, mu-mu wearing females? *shudder*. Now that is scary! I hope there's no "sweatin' to the oldies" type cut sceenes...the horror...

The battle knife on her hip is cool, sort of a cross between a knife and a gladius. The skull and bones at the head of her staff arn't doing much for me. Bones, Teeth and Skulls always give my mind the "primative", "throwback" or "paganish" impression. That sort of impression I thought was great for the Orkish nature (which I thought worked well for Orks), but I kinda thought the Humans/Elves would be more uniform, mordern ... "civilized" so to speak.
Clean, well kept armour and dress with appropriate insignia, like regimental crests or color. Polished, well fitted armour plating and other equiptment giving a very Military impression of organization. The Orks of course would be the opposite with bent, dirty and tarnished armour plating. Tattered capes, robes and dress with old stains, patchs and stitching ect. Skulls, Teeth and Bones collected as trophies form past battles too of course. The expected appearance of lacking "uniformity" between warriors with no specific miltaristic doctrine.
I really like Shawns Elvern Archer too, minus the stringy white hair draping out form his helmet. Though, white hair is very "elfish" =) . I also like his simple Orcish Hut concept. I hope many such structures will be designed into the gameplay as usuable infrastructure that players will make use of in completing gameplay objectives.

I like Shawns Work. However, the two female concepts didn't really convey a magic user to me right off the bat. She looks more like a warrior/skirmisher. Which is great =), just I thought a unit who's primary talent is magic, should convey that. Which is kind of an "eye of the beholder" thing as, what does a magic user look like except what one thinks they are sapposed to look like. The battle knife on her hip is cool, sort of a cross between a knife and a gladius.
