What is a really good level editor for torque?

Hi Aldo,

Torque has a nice in-game mission editor that allows for object placement, parameter setting, landscape painting, etc., etc. All kinds of cool stuff can be done just by hitting F11 and fiddling with what's there. Interior spaces, like MAP files can be created in a number of great apps into the Torque compatible .DIF format. Cartography Shop, Hammer/Worldcraft, QuArK and others can handle those.

I hope that helps.

DeleD (http://www.delgine.com) will support a .map export plugin shortly.

@Aldo:
At present, most of the DIF editors out there are lacking in one way or another. Most folks are waiting anxiously for the release of Torque Constructor, but that's a ways off yet.

For now, Quark seems to be most peoples' preferred option.
It's free, and has a plethora of features, but can be a pain in the nethers at times.
I hate the editing controls, personally.

I've purchased 3D World Studio (which is the latest version of Leadwerks' Cartography Shop).
I like its editing environment, which is intuitive and easy to use, but it lacks some of Quark's features.

Additionally, the current version's MAP-to-DIF export is broken, so you'll have to do the conversion manually or use the previous version.

I haven't used Hammer or DeleD, so I can't comment on those yet.

I wish DeleD supported dif or map right now, I love it

Its crazy that Constructor will be the only good dif editor.

I think QuArk is so out of date, and its the only thing I can use right now.

Hammer is something I WOULD use if the Valve's EULA allowed for use in Torque commercial products. However since there is no OFFICIAL word from Valve, for legal reasons I will be staying away.

I contacted Jeff Tunnell here at garage games, to get a solid answer, and since there are soooo many postings on Hammer and if it is legal I thought I would clear it up. . . . This is what Jeff had to say

"We never got final confirmation that it is OK to use Hammer, so we can't recommend it as a solution. We officially recommend Quark. Recently, GTK Radiant become open source and is OK to use. We also have our own, modern CSG level editor called Constructor coming out soon."

I have since contacted the people over at Valve to see about some form of an official response, but alas, the chance of me getting a reply are slim to none. It does not hurt to try.

I for one am thrilled about this feature stuffed Constructor app coming out. I will be buying that for sure... Hands down.

Take care.

(Sorry for hijacking your thread, Aldo ;-)

I like 3D World Studio (which I resently bough but yet have had delivered, how long time
does it take them to send me a license number I wonder?)

QuARK is a night mare what it comes to usability.

But as John "Doppler" Schiff said, QuARK have some interesting feature.
(If I where Leadwerks, I'd integrated Python in the prodcut a long time ago, but I'm not :-)

The is an SDK, but I never understood what you can do with it, the domcumentation is, well not there I guess?

Would it be possible to add the thing one would like to have as 3D party components.
(I know I would like to add pathed interior stuff for instance)

Hi Johan,

All Leadwerks.com orders have been sent. If you ordered from www.leadwerks.com, and your order has not been processed, please contact me at support at leadwerks dot com.

3D World Studio v5.48 has just been released, which fixed the .dif compile problem the previous version had.
