except they're not using Torque/VL2.

I like the idea of a faster, more compact tribes experience, but it just won't be tribes if it's not Dynamix, IMO. The people who are making it won't have the same kind of passion.

lol...
I was just heading here with a link.

I wanted to state that I feel this product is in extremely bad taste. I wont even pretend to know about the "Dynamix" aspect of Sierra continuing the product after they left (for whatever reason).

But as a gamer, I feel like this is a blatant attempt to bleed us dry. Look at this feature list:

Features A complete nine-mission single player campaign lets Tribes players experience the world of Tribes off-line and at their own pace. Also includes a separate tutorial

This is MOD-able, but if you don't know how to mod and you feel $40 ($20 with rebate) is worth '9' single player missions...

The fastest action of any online multiplayer game. Flying, skiing, shooting, and vehicles all happen at once over wide-open outdoor areas.

Already present in Tribes 2 (can even be faster through scripting)...

Purchase weapons, armor, gadgets, vehicles, and ammo from in-game inventory stations to try different strategies on the opposition.

Already present in Tribes 2...

Compete in massive, boundless worlds tormented by real-time weather, as well as inside sprawling base complexes.

Present in Tribes 2...

More than just shooting vehicles, turrets that can be placed around the field, repair guns that can fix anything in the base add strategy to the frenzied pace.

Present in Tribes 2...

Four modified vehicles, including a single-player bomber, and armed transport.

MOD-able...

Experience authentic multiplayer action offline with intelligent bots that hunt, capture flags, place turrets, and even infiltrate bases if you let them.

Play Multiplayer with bots and don't allow anyone to join...

Master a wide variety of game types, including capture-the-flag, Siege, Hunters, Bounty, and Rabbit.

Present in Tribes 2...

Basically this is a sham. They are only trying to bleed you dry with this product as this is hardly more than a patch that should be implimented into Tribes 2... and a small patch at that. I am insulted actually.

I think the worst part about all of this is that Sierra is getting their MODs from the community and turning around and selling it back to us!!! wtf!

base++ is the "faster" portion...

All of the new maps you'll be getting can be downloaded from Tribes2Maps.com.

Unless the original artists and developers of these maps and scripts are getting the lion's share of the income, I'm not going to buy it.

Hey, while I'm sure GarageGames appreciates everyones interest in Tribes and the Tribes franchise this is still a Torque development website. If you want to discuss these issues how about heading to www.tribalwar.com/forums/ and doing it there.

And FYI its not Tribes 2: Fast Attack, it is just Tribes Fast Attack. It is not based off of the Tribes 2 engine in any way shape or form.

Secondly, the community made mods are not part of Tribes Fast Attack but instead part of the Re-Release of Tribes 2 -- which also happens to be part of the Tribes Fast Attack release (they are putting both on the same cd).

Sorry to hit a nerve with this subject Robert.

The description of this forum leads me to believe that this kind of topic is OK to discuss here:
Quote:"PC games dead? ESD the future? Sega quits. Microsoft buys the world? Anything industry related is fair game."
The topic also seems like it would be close to many of the developers on this site - with the heavy tie into the Tribes franchise. I just thought the topic would provide for some interesting discussion. No harm or disrespect was intended.

Tribes Fast Attack is still the T2 engine.

My bad, but I think Justin is correct...

This is a good place to discuss this subject.

Sorry LabRat, but it's not.

Unless Alex was blatantly lying through his teeth.

From what I have read, T:FA is a port of the PS2 version of Tribes. It uses a different engine and is by Inevitable Entertainment, the developers of the PS2 version of Tribes. They claim it is not a port, but do admit the single player missions come from the PS2 version.

I got this information from HomeLAN's articles posted a couple of days ago.

Well, I swore off Sierra games after they disbanded dynamix--so this means little to me. I realize that many companies feel it's ok not to give any kind of notice, but that still doesn't make it RIGHT.

That interview almost makes it sound like we'll have to buy FastTrack just to get the final update for T2--for a game that was shipped too soon and too buggy. Go figger.

At any rate, I hope you guys @ GG (including all indie devs, too) can make Torque into what it SHOULD have been/has potential of becoming.

Best of luck.

I think if Fast Attack doesn't use the Tribes 2 engine then it will not be "mod-able". If there is no modding then half the appeal is gone, if there is modding and it is a different 3D engine, then not many people are going to bother learning it all over again a 3rd time.

If it is the same engine as T2 then it will annoy alot of people "just give it to us as a patch!" - or heh, it will be easy to rip up into a downloadable version for T2 owners for free muhhaahha.

The Tribes 2 patch will be free, as stated. Any sudden backflip here will cause civil unrest.

Either way I am not planning to buy any more Sierra stuff and I still want/demand more patches for Tribes 2.

I think it would be pretty funny if someone would mod this "new game" in entirety out of Tribes 2. lol

Someone was saying that's pretty well what base++ is?

I'm curious, too: Do more people like that you can have large teams w/ tribes2? Or not?

Many pubs have 48-64 players--and there's plenty of open pubs,so it's not like they are force to play... and yet they do.

I like having big teams--not huge, like 64 per side because it's just unmanageable... but 34/side is ok by me.

I like epic games myself. Lots of action!

Also, it seems to me that the more people you have on your team, the better chance there is of someone doing repairs and covering hot spots. The smaller games tend to be too vacant for me.

Smaller games are fun too, but you can always cap the server.

Well, I just remembered.

There is a project being created in Torque that is trying to duplicate the "fun factor" from Tribes 1.

While I'm not certain how they're going to do it without violating some copyrights, they plan on trying to duplicate most things found in Tribes 1 and putting it into Torque. I believe it will be a free game.

I just can't think of the game. I saw them in some really big interview a while back (many pages, tons of pics) but I didn't think they had too much done. Nice models though.

Tribes Legends? Not sure...

Yeah, that may be it.

You know that sparked something I had pondered before. Does anyone else notice the striking resemblance between Tribes and Warhammer 40k? :)

I know that there are some differences, but I figured it was probably close enough to start a law suit.

Not that *I* minded the similarities, I love WarHammer 2k.

Legends.

www.gamelegends.net

We are fully aware of copyright issues and such.

Tribes Fast Attack is not the Tribes 2 engine. It is probably some form of a port from the PS/2 game in development Tribes Ariel Assault.

Tribes 2 're-release' will be on the same cd as Tribes Fast Attack.

Hmm.. I've never heard of Warhammer40k. I looked it up online.. is it a board game of some type?... I'm intrigued.. :)

Legends does look exactly like Tribes. Everything including the Disk Launcher is being recreated. Should be interesting.

Their site implies they're going through a period of redesign.

Tribes fast attack is essentially what Tribes Legends is trying to be, and I think they know that if they might either meet resistance from the people making the official version or just won't get the attention they'd deserve.

Personally, I think it's a good thing that they're going to go for something slightly different.
