Question

This is just a general question, I see that "Tribes 2" the game has been getting multiple patches a day because of all the bugs; does this reflect the stability and status of the engine Garage Games is supporting? Are there multiple patches for the engine already to keep up? Or are the issues Dynamix/Sierra are suffering unrelated to the package of GG?

Garage Games Team vs Tribes2 Team?

GarageGames does get the bug fixes produced by Dynamix for the first few major patches, and you right, it is a problem. Rick and I have already made big layout changes to the source tree which will complicate the merges. We originally didn't anticipate being interested a lot of the fixes (a number will be game related which we don't care about), but it looks like there are a few performance and crash issues we'll definitely want to integrate. I'm not sure if it's going to delay our release, but it's not making it any easier :)

Ah I see, thanks for the info. I have an orientation/whatever for the second year course tommorrow and last I heard the program directors were talking the V12 engine, however were frightened off by the bug scare.

To make a long story short, we don't want to be working in some of the crap they are going to try to pawn off on us and we want an industry related engine, so need to try to convince them on the V12 :)

T2 probably shipped before it should have, I don't believe the team was happy about it. But it's in Sierra's interesest to squash all the bugs and to continue supporting the game. I'm sure over the next few months (maybe sooner), that T2 will turn in to a solid product.

Don't be so harsh, it is an immensely solid product, they've just been having problems with the server because a lot of people bought the game and the servers weren't THAT ready.... I haven't experienced ANY of the bugs they refer to...

Whereas some games ship something that seems like months before the due date ( Sin, anyone? ). Tribes2 has had it's share of problems but no biggie, I wouldn't say these bugs are there because the team was careless. They did a hell of a good job and should be commended for it
