Game Level Builder is a plug-in for Max which attempts to create csg-compliant stuff from traditional polysoup models.

You can use the shape3DS resource which lets you import meshes from 3dsMax into torque with unlimited collision meshes.

I'd forgotten about that. That is a cool resource. I believe there are problems with lighting and shadows as well as occlusion since it is not portal'd. I'll have to add it in and play with it a bit. I compiled it into 1.3 a while back but didn't do much other than loading the teapot and saying "cool".

What compiler are you using?

The shape3DS resource won't help you since you don't have access to the source code and a recompile is required for it to work. Game Level Builder would be what you need if you want to export a .diff from Max.

You will need to model according to their guidelines or risk losing geometry on export.

I believe you use the standard tools, but I don't use Max (and as a consequince do not use Game Level builder). I do know a lot of people who have had a good run with it, though it is definitely not perfect. It is one of the better options for a toolset which allows you to stay in Max for much of your content creation.

No it only exports to a .Map. The DIF file format is exclusive to Torque and as such you need to use the Map2DIF utility to convert the model data over.

Where can i get the .map to .dif converter from?
