Pussycat Dolls Online Lounge

by Adrian Walters · in General Discussion · 05/09/2006 (7:25 am) · 16 replies

Pussycat Dolls happen to be one of my favourite bands right now, and surfing their site noticed a link to the "Online Lounge". Looking at the screen shots I thought "this looks very Torquesque" and on downloading, dsq's, shapes, .cs.dso's, by golly it IS Torque.

Brilliant idea, great music streaming out, not found any actual nice people yet but I just wanted to congratulate whoever put it together and let the Torque community see yet another original idea made possible by GarageGames!

w00t! (as I believe the younguns say nowadays)

While I'm really not a PCD, fan, I agree that this is very cool. Thanks for pointing this out.

For anyone else who's interested, here's the link . . .

Update:

Now I've got that 'Doncha' song playing in my head and I can't get it out.

Isn't that a dance group in Vegas too?

Jonathan's sister (it's a reality show on bravo).

That's actually a pretty cool implementation.

-MMORPG-like
-bubble-style chat (above toon head)
-streaming music
-integrated AIM
-sliding doors
-click-to-activate some objects.
-click-to-view profiles, descriptions, or ads on the web
-very customizable characters
-facial animation

Maybe more?

The developer of this has been reading alot of Dreamers stuff I think - Great implementation!

Yeah, liked the implementation. TGE's a great platform for stuff like that.

Hey All -

thanks for the good words !

just some quick info,
Evil Twin Studios is a young and growing company in San Francisco.
In the next couple weeks we should have some proper press-release type stuff about us and the Pussy Cat Dolls thing, but for now we're still pretty low-profile and i can't say much.

..as you can tell from the incredibly bare-bones web site.

i've been with the company for about half a year, working with the Torque.
of the other garage-games frequent posters, Clint Brewer has also been doing awesome stuff for the project.

We are hiring for a variety of positions, so please check out our jobs page.
The company is awesome, the engineering and art teams are really on-the-ball, and it's a lot of fun.

Thanks again to the whole GG community and Stephen Zepp et al at GG,
we've been chomping at the bit for months to post a dev-snapshot, and only a little while longer!

Orion - put a "register me" button in the download. I ended up deleting the "game" because I got frustrated not being able to register in the client.

Just my $2 worth

This has been one of the coolest "can't talk about" commercial projects in development in TGE, and it's exciting to me personally to see it finally in a public beta!

Evil Twin Studios was the core team to attend our first official Torque Boot Camp WAY back in July of last year, as well as being our first commercial support client for games, and we've been extremely impressed both with the design and implementation they've put together to prove that TGE isn't just for fps games, but with proper understanding of the theory and implementation of the engine fundamentals, can be adapted to just about anything you want.

I also want to make a quick statement about the growing importance of community members being professional during their Torque Tech learning progress on the forums--as Orion mentioned, both he and Clint were hired pretty much directly out of the community, and I know that ETS spent quite a bit of time probing through the forums to "vet" their work prior to hiring for the project.

In addition, I want to say that "what comes around, goes around"--it's important to us here at GG to do our best to motivate commercial studios to contribute back to the community as best they can, and if you review back in your head regarding both Orion and Clint's posts, you'll find that both have signifigantly contributed back to all of us the things that they've learned to their best of their ability (obviously, working as a commercial developer, some information is controlled by the company due to commercial interest). Along with Eric Priesz and a variety of commercial developers, the support you as a community provides here in our forums comes back around to help when you need it, and that's why the GG community is so strong--keep up the good work everyone!

PCD music lounge made a c|net.com article yesterday, which today was featured on a popular site, fark.com.

As Eric noted, there's been a lot of press waiting to be uncorked, and today is finally the day!

Consequently, there's a whole lot of people in "The Lounge" today,
so if you want to check out a torque server hosting fifty or sixty people (Yow! Actually current count is 68!), visit pcdmusiclounge.com.

Also, just to clarify, "Evil Twin Studios" is changing names to "Doppelganger".
