Bumpmap Base Texture Question

by Devildrew · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 05/05/2006 (11:16 am) · 3 replies

I believe i have the bumpmaps working from using the example in data\interiors\test. The only thing i noticed is when i open solidmetal.png in Photoshop it has a checkerboard face covering it. All the Jpegs i converted to PNG do NOT but all my normal maps do.

1. What is it?
2. Does it need to be on the base texture?
3. How do i do it?

Thanks.

I think the checkerboard is photoshop showing you the texture has an alpha channel, but i could be wrong as i use gimp..

Ye i thought that too but also in Gimp it shows the checkered board in the forground, i just want to make sure i am not missing a step in converting my jpegs to the base texture maps for bump mapping effect.

If you have several layers the different paint progs might default to different layers. Therefore you will see a different one on top. Have a look at the layer selection panel and see which ones are selected.
