Indie questions

by Matthew · in Torque Game Engine · 04/29/2006 (9:33 am) · 6 replies

Ok i plan to buy the 3d game engine soon as i am sick of dark basic pro as there is no level editor built in. My long term plan with the 3D game engine is to upgrade to a commercial licence and sell my games but for now i want to ask a few questions about the indie licence:
1. Can i put games with an indie licence on my web site as long as it is for free.
2. What restrictions are there compared to the commerial licence

A few other questions as well will MS visual studio.net 2003 work with it as a compiler.

You can sell your games with the indie license. It's only if you make over a certain amount of money that you have to upgrade to the commercial license. I think you also need to display a splash screen at the start as well. With a commercial license, there's no need to display a splash screen.

Your best bet is just to download the demo and read the EULA.

Just because you have the indie licence doesnt mean you can't sell your game.

1) you can sell your games or give them free even with the indie license, unless you make over $250,000... then you need the commercial license.

2a) with indie you cant make over $250,000
2b) have to show the Torque Game/Shader Engine logo for 4 seconds at start up (i think thats the time)
2c) can not make non-game applications

a lot of these questions can be answered in the indie licence, sometimes may be hard to find, but they are there.

::edit:: misuse of a word, thanks Tom for pointing that out

Thats very very very good value. it will cost me around 50 pound to get here in the UK. I dont mind logos i allways like to show them at the start and i curretly have no intrest in non game applications with this software anyway.

@Genesis, Ofcourse having the indie license means you can sell your game. You've just listed the reasons that cause you to upgrade to the commercial license.

Can you point out something in the EULA that says you can't sell your game once you have the indie license, as that might help clarify your post.

I think Genesis ment "can't" not "can" ;). And yes, torque is great value :)
