Gish ripoff?

Penny Arcade linked this game for PSP:

It looks like they took the core gameplay of Gish and polished the sh*t out of it.

Ahh, did some searching and found this blog of one of the devs:

greggman.com/edit/editheadlines/2005-09-17.htm

The developer is claiming they didn't play Gish. One of the level creators at Chronic Logic is yelling bullsh*t to that and he's pretty pissed.

IMO I find it hard to believe Gish was not an influence on some level. Regardless, the game looks pretty cool.

IMO Chronic Logic may be right. Was Gish around when this was made?

Teletubbies meets Gish?

Will be interesting to find out what happens. While parts may be similar, it's still possible it's coincidental.

Gish was bound to get clones. At least Loco Roco seems to add some additional mechanics to their game.

I really doubt that its coincidental - and judging by the look of it, it almost seems as if they went completely out of their way to make the art look completely different than Gish - happy vs grungy. Though that could just be marketing - it would seem that if the team did any sort of research into the market to see what was out there they would have run into Gish, especially since it had won so many awards:

IGF 2005 WINNER - Grand Prize
IGF 2005 WINNER - Game Design
Indy Game of the Year - Gametunnel.com
Adventure Game of the Year - Gametunnel.com
Editors Choice - Game Chronicles Magazine
Home of the Underdogs Top Dog

So, added up, I would say that there is almost no plausable way that these people weren't influenced by Gish
(in fact I suspect that in their design doc somewhere it says "like Gish, only with flowers")

Midhir, Gish has been available since late 2004 I believe. Maybe even earlier.

Mercury wasn't like Gish, is Gish you were a ball of Tar, which has most properties of a solid and is know for sticking to objects and hardening, like on a road. Mercury is a liquid metal at room temperature, with no adhesive propeties.

This game, Loco Roco, however is clearly another Sony-Commisioned ripoff even if the developers didn't know about it. But every game developer in the world had known about Gish since early 2004, so that is highly unlikely.

Is it moved, where is the link for it?
