TSE & Realtime

I was watching the video for Metal Gear Solid 4 for playstation 3. I was wondering if I will be able to have real time in game on TSE like MGS that would be sweet. I notice the Unreal 3 has it for thier games.

The Myst series and Zork were pre-rendered... I don't know what he's trying to say, but I'm not quite understanding it too well...

He is comparing the quality of the 'realtime' graphics in U3 and MGS, asking if TSE will be able to handle such a heavy graphics load in realtime.

Oh! now I get it. Thats all dependant on your hardware/how well your shaders are written. Those would be demonstrating the power of OpenGL 2.0, I think.

@Mincetro. Its more dependant on your ability to create the art assets; shaders, models, lighting etc. and failing that, you can add video's to Torque using the Theora codec. BTW maybe you mean Pixel Shader 2.0 rather than OpenGL 2.0? TSE currently supports Direct X Shaders.

No, I meant OpenGL. That's what the PS3 will be using (and everybody else should be using imho).

TSE's stock capabilities don't have realistic lighting/shadowing _yet_, not sure the extent it will. This can all be added by good enough programmers anyways though. It's got the base capabilites of any of the other engines though. Really it's all a matter of what your artists can do, and what your hardware can render.

Oh I know what he was talking about. It was still funny though. And the realistic quality that an engine is "capable" of it's wholly dependant on the artists and programmers. On PC, this is determined by the capabilites of your hardware before worrying about if the engine can do it. So it's a silly question. Aside from that like Paul said, its entirely up to the team thats making the game how photo-realistic or movie like the in-game graphics are.

Keep in mind too that Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the PS3s supposide "must have" games, as such there area lot of resources being thrown at it in comparison to any of the games that indies are doing with TSE. So you obviously won't have a level playing field to compare the two on.Aside from that like Paul said, its entirely up to the team thats making the game how photo-realistic or movie like the in-game graphics are.

Project Offset is just another example of was I'm talking about

Could someone do that with TSE? Yes, all it takes is time and knowledge.
Is it something that your average end user can do? No, it takes a lot of time and knowledge to pull that off. What you see in Offset is pure talent combined with some massaged shader effects.

For the most part a look like that comes from great art & great shaders. Could someone do that with TSE? Yes, all it takes is time and knowledge.

Uber lighting + uber models + uber textures != good game.but its a start. :)

You could do that with TSE, if you put enough effort into it
