New Idea for GG

GG since you have all the best tools out there. Have you ever thought about setting up a subscription service that will allow a team to have all the tools and the updates for a year? Different levels of pay for different tool sets? YOu guys are comming out with so many great tools its not like they are over priced but with everything you have its slowly becoming that you don't have to leave the GG site to get a game done. Just wondering.

@Nauris
It was just something that clicked in my mind. Just want to see how others felt.

@Nauris: If they offered both models, then at least one person (me) would happily pay the subscription fee if only so he'd ge the right to email them every day asking "So have you hired another Mac engineer yet? How about now?", thus the revenue increase would be non-zero. Now whether or not it would be enough to actually get more resources is another question entirely.

I'm seriously considering buying a non-Indie license even though I haven't even shipped a game yet (let alone hitting the $250k revenue ceiling) in order to put more money in the hands of the developers. I complain a LOT, and LOUDLY about Torque but it's only because I see enough potential in the products that I feel the effort spent trying to get them improved is worth it. I'm fully willing to put my money where my mouth is because I consider it an investment in infrastructure.

@Jon
In that respect its almost like if you don't vote don't complain. Everyone here wants more from GG. This would help them give more to us.

I for one am happy with what I've gotten from GG. I don't complain.

@Jon - the revenue increase may be non-zero, but not necessarily positive. :D
because now GG would be obligated to spend someone's time to answer your emails,
whereas before your subscription they had the option of ignoring it.

There's also the commercial support option.

@Jon: your reason for complaining a LOT and LOUDLY is the exact same reason why I do it as well.

About paying more money to support them... that is in a way what I did last year... at that time I didn't really need TSE or T2D but I did buy them to support what GG was doing..... and to support TSE and T2D developmnt as I new I would have a use for them one year or more later.
Well no much happened with TSE in the following year... only now something more has been released and only recently more man hours have been assigned to TSE.

So, even if you or all of us donate money to GG or buy a commercial license ahead of time, you are no there, you have no control on how they spend your money, they may even use it to finanance polishing of the next games they want to develop instead spending it to polish TGE/TSE or to develop professional/usable documentation

@Orion: Just because I'm paying a subscription fee does not mean the subscription needs to include *support*. They could structure it so that the subscription entitled you only to free upgrades, or free upgrades plus premium TDN content, or some such.

I've looked into the commercial support option and odds are I will get it when the time comes, but right now I'm paying for my game development out of pocket so it's not an option just yet.

@Jon - true, i guess i was responding to the implication that it would include support when you wrote "he'd get the right to email them every day asking ".

but yr right, support isn't really the topic of this thread.

Obviously we can't control what they do with the money. We can only hope they would listen to the subscribers and support them. As I am sure they listen to the people who SDKs right now.

@Orion/Jon
You know they could taylor the options. You pay different amounts for the things you want to subscribe to. For instance I don't use TSE yet so instead I would choose show tool and constructor. The next guy may just choose TSE and support. I just think its interesting. Now let it be known that I am just as broke as anyone. Working two jobs and supporting a family I must also watch what I spend. I would only hope that something like this would make GG better and even more dominate in the market.
