Drama TV Show with Indies

I just saw the pilot episode of a show called What About Brian. Two of the main characters, Brian and Dave, are indie game developers running a company called Zap Monkey based in Los Angeles. This is the first time I've seen game development as a career in a TV show, let alone in a drama show. Maybe I've missed something in the past.
I'm really curious about what they'll do with the material. The pilot aired tonight, but I'm pretty sure the first episode airs tomorrow (Monday) evening.
I'd love to hear thoughts.

Dave: I hate that Brian. He's been overusing the lens flares in our opening movie again. I mean, I like lens flares, but they went out with Photoshop 3! I like Wham, too, but you don't see me playing it around the office!

Brian: Man, Dave is really getting on my nerves! He hums Wham songs under his breath while programming. Oh, and don't get me started on that! I asked him to do something simple like realistic AI and he gets all huffy and complains about my lens flares! Everyone knows that lens flares an IN! Idiot.

I hope it's not reality TV...[private room]

Either that or they'll just cut out the part about scrolling text, debugging, waiting half a year for everything to compile, and only show the fun stuff.
It's like that commercial for some game dev college in my area. "Can you believe we get paid to play games?!"

Nah, I'll bet anything it'll be one of those shows that make game dev look like a bunch of shifting Matrix-Style graphics and colorful effects. I don't think anyone is going to make money off of a show where you watch someone scroll text. Not that scrolling text is a bad thing... it's just... not entertainment.Either that or they'll just cut out the part about scrolling text, debugging, waiting half a year for everything to compile, and only show the fun stuff.

Anyway, I'll give it a try. Here is the link to the show.
@David - Now that would be funny!
@Don - I agree with you, stupid commercial. I've seen several of those for a lot of colleges. Makes me want to reach out and slap'em!

I bet the game developer angle is just a hook and the drama part won't have much to do with game development. Can anybody say "Sports Night"?Anyway, I'll give it a try. Here is the link to the show.

In Oregon, the first episode is on KATU (channel 2) tonight at 10pm (Pacific).

Heh heh heh. It's definitely a drama. The pilot aired right after Desperate Housewives, if that gives you any sense of the show's direction. However, the pilot already slipped in this potential issue of Brian wanting to sell Zap Monkey, while Dave refuses to become "a corporate zombie." It might be interesting just to watch for how they deal with that in later episodes. In Oregon, the first episode is on KATU (channel 2) tonight at 10pm (Pacific).

This is from JJ Abrams the creator of Alias, Lost and the director of this summer's Mission Impossible 3. Is it possible that this show could actually be good?! Mission Impossible 3 looks good and that is not something I thought I'd think after Mission Impossible 2. Lost was actually addicting during the season that JJ Abrams was in charge of. Alias is the best spy show ever... even with all of the studio screwing around with the plot. I might actually have to check out reviews for this when it comes out.

This is interesting, I talked with the creators of a show that will be kinda like that, we are actually partners, my team was going to be the one on the show (go Torque). But the thing is, as far as I knew, MTV was going to be doing it??? I guess ABC beat them to it? Or is this just the begenning of game dev reality shows? (I actually know the truth but can't say, hint hint).

And it's really boring. I'm trying to put up watching it for the sake of indie jokes, but they are pretty rare, even if you do get to see their studio. It's really more about relationships... in California... and married couples, and the single Brian left behind...
