Framerate drop over time

I have no clue as to what I've managed to mess up, in fact I'm not even sure where to begin.
What's happening in that in an enclosed dif interior (very similar to a MUCH more complex one I made months ago that DOESN'T have this problem) and as your player moves around the level after several minutes (up to ten) - never a consistent amount of time - the framerates drop from 25-30fps to 3-5fps.
I've gone through and eliminated all lights and just allowed sun and ambient, no change. I've eliminated a substantial amount of details that were in the level (crates, barrels, signs, etc.), and no change.
I'm working with 3D Studio, and I'm wondering if it's a LOD problem that I didn't have with Cartography 4.1? I can tell you that the worldspawn/entities were a lot simpler with Cartography than 3D World Studio, but I'm sure (since I've been using 3DWS since the fall) that I haven't had this problem with it before.
I would just put it down to too many details in the dif, but I've made others more complex and I haven't had the problem. I know that this doesn't help in figuring this out, and perhaps I'm just venting at my own frustration at myself and the last two days I've spent trying to figure this out. I know there isn't a simple solution, but I had to rant somewhere and to someone. I'd just dump the whole dif if I wasn't so happy on how it looks (and fearing that in a week I'd do whatever I've done wrong again).
Anyway, sorry for the tirade...

That same night I freaked out and ordered a BFG 7300GS, new motherboard, case, powersupply and hard drive. It seems to work ok now...=P
(Ok, it's not the best troubleshooting method, but it sure saved me great tufts of hair).
