3DS to Blender to Map

by Randy Hearn - Magnum · in Torque Game Engine · 04/08/2006 (10:01 am) · 2 replies

I have a ton of old 3DS files that are lowpoly and I can use for develpment and creating scenes for Tourgue.

I have found they import better into Blender than any other program. What I would like to do is export them from Blender or convert them to .map files to use in the 3D World Studio.

I have followed several Blender links and topics, but have usually run into dead links.

I have the Blender DTS exporter installed already.

I am not sure if the Blender map exporter was ever finished.

One of the problems with using pre-made models in a .map conversion process is that very often, there is illegal geometry that you will have to track down and fix. This is mostly because brush modeling is...well, blocky, and most polysoup modeling is not.

Unwrap 3D has a .map exporter with pretty good 3DS support. But you'll run into the same issues. Game with GameSpace.

Illegal geometry is the bane of .map exporters everywhere. CSG is seemingly the bane of modellers everywhere.

Thanks,

That is probably why I have not found it yet:)

I have found information to that effect as well as far as converting models with non-std geometry for the maps.

I have download CGS light, and did not like the inerface at all.

Oh well. Looks like it is time to reconstruct some...
