Getting Started

We just purchased the TSE engine and I've been spending the past few days trying to figure it out.

Is there -anything- better than this 'E3 demo' thing to learn from?

I went out and got a really helpful book called '3D Game Programming All in One' which is great, but I'd hate to just toss this whole demo it comes with and start over again. But I think that's my next step as it's just too inter-related. I think there's a lot of mission/scene scripting which is forcing things to work a certain way.

As far as I can tell the 'E3 demo' we got is just some crazy hacked-together fixed cameras. I've been trying to create my own player class, but that just results in crashes, the map never displaying, or some orc falling through the world. It's really frustrating having no comments in this thing that make sense, kind of like someone took a normal demo and tore it apart to make a tech demo. I mean, the 'player' is a PathCamera.

There's supposed to be an fps and a car demo, too, but they weren't accessible as far as I can tell, so I guess they've been disabled. If I try to run them or the 'water demo' manually by copying TSE_Debug into other directories to run their respective main.cs files they just never load, so there must be a lot more going in the root.

Does everyone start out with TSE like this? :)
