What is in the name?

For the past two years that I have been lucky enought to own a licence to the best game engine in the world, I have had 1 question in my head that is bugging me. Why Torque? what dose the word torque have that is so signicant. Please forgive me if the answer is really obvious, I must have some how missed it.

I'm assuming it's a play on the orignal name of the engine, which was V12.

Then I really do not see the connection. Maybe I am just not reading something here.
Thanks anyway Paul.

Play on words. Don't think "version12", think V12, i.e. V12 engine, horsepower...torque...
