Oblivion:One Game to Rule them All

I purchased a new computer this last week and it should arrive sometime this week. So, I have been playing Oblivion for the last few hours on my old computer on the lowest graphics settings possible. So, understanding that... I have this to say:
This is THE single BEST game EVER made!!! Hands down. No contest. It is The King.
Not since first playing Unreal all those years ago have I been this blown away by a game.
Anyway, if you have been wondering whether or not to get Oblivion... even on lowest settings it's the most enjoyable game I've played in the last five years.

Plus... you just beat the hell out of everything and it's fun as hell. Swinging that huge Iron Claymore around with out worrying about dodging. You're like Arnold or Stallone. And you can turn it off again anytime by typeing it in again, so, you can play fair when you want.

If you are like me and you don't have the time and dedication to really play this game, but you want to because it's clearly got a great story and facinating characters and amazing locations, then I have one word for you:TGM. That's right, TGM or Toggle God Mode. :) Hit the ~ and type TGM and your health and magic and whatever that bottom line is stays 100%. You still get you points. But you don't have to worry about doing things the right way just to get thru the game. Godmode... the short on time guy's game savior.Plus... you just beat the hell out of everything and it's fun as hell. Swinging that huge Iron Claymore around with out worrying about dodging. @anton: out of curtosy, you should have put "spoiler alert" at the top of your post. because knowing that can ruin the game for some (most) people.

Toggling God Mode isn't a spoiler per-se. Rather, it is a cheat. Giving away a major plot point would have been detrimental. Giving people an option to cheat is not. At least that's my take on spoilers.

Yeah, I kinda see it the same way as David. Plus, I found the TGM 'cheat' in the editor tutorial. I don't even know if it works for the XBox 360 version. It's supposed to be used for editing your own content. :P Of course, that's why they call it a 'hack' 'cheat'. :P

I will say, I feel a lot more depth in Oblivion than the previous games though. I so far have enjoyed the quests a lot more. As I said in my post above, the dialog could use a total rehaul, they added this Persuasion mini-game and it's okay and it at least makes them not totally as dry as Morrowind but the system is kinda stupid. Though, if anyone has played Fable, it is no where near as bad as the mini-game in that to get women to marry you (also used for persuasion as well) For those that haven't, it amounted to walking up to a woman and saying "Hey..." about 200 times and then a mixture of giving roses and flirting another 50 times and then she marries you. *bleh* I do however like the new lockpicking system though, that one works and is fun.
I am interested how Gothic 3 will be now. Since Morrowind and Gothic 1/2 are rivals in the RPG market, both being good.

Yea, I definately agree that the Elder Scrolls game feel like empty feeling. How the quests and NPCs would be dry and similar to an MMORPGs. Another large-scale game feels this way as well, that being X3 - the Reunion, a large space sim, beautiful but the missions are incredibly dry.I will say, I feel a lot more depth in Oblivion than the previous games though. Is it better than Morrowind? I've been thinking of getting it but Morrowind burned me out on RPG's.

If you don't want to spend a lifetime playing a game, Oblivion is better than Morrowind. Morrowind was too much work for me. Then again, I didn't know about the TGM cheat, so, maybe I'll give it a try again. One of these days when I'm not so busy that I don't have time to sleep. :P

I can't play Oblivion sadly, I only have a Radeon 9000 which is an unsuported chipset. (for odd reasons)

But the game has a few technical flaws with its german translation and crashes in general. I mean why is the healing spell called fireball? or why do i find lots of english stuff in the game still? or why is nightshade translated wrongly in the cure vampirism quest (when they tell you to get it they call it "Nachtschatten". they write it all over your questbook. But the actual ingredient you have to find is called "Tollkirsche" which is the german translation of Nightshade making it impossible to solve it). There is an unofficial patch (plugin) for german users that changes 2353 entries. Some of those entries are actually done to mirror the Morrowind Translation (Clannfear was called Clannbann in Morrowind but is called Clannfear in german Oblivion).
They should have worked on it for a few more months before releasing it.
Nevertheless its a game that i deeply enjoy playing. Most SP games get boring after a few hours for me but not Oblivion.

From my PnP RPG perspective i liked Morrowind (favorite was Daggerfall tho) more because i really like having lots of numbers :) and i still dont know why they removed that many skills and inventory items. In morrowind you could actually equip alot more: left shoulder pauldron, right shoulder pauldron, left glove, right glove, then some magical common clothes underneath your armor and a nice mages cape on top of it. And i never know why they removed the medium armor skill, axe skill, stave skill and the marksman skill. Oblivion obviously was made "to get new faces to play the game". It feels a lot more streamlined. But the game has a few technical flaws with its german translation and crashes in general. And yet the Ultima's, Wizardry's, Might & Magics, Dungeon Siege's, Baldur's Gates, Fallouts, etc... keep me entertained.
Maybe I'll get into it a little more with a couple more hours. Who knows. I just know that it's all that many of my other friends are talking about.
