Question with publishing....

Well me and my friends are making an MMORPG and we were originally going to let people download then once out of beta charge per month fee. We don't mind with the publishing but what about letting them download the betas? Also if you guys reject a game can the rejected developers go to another publisher?

This is from the V12:License per product/company/developer? thread Quote:
You should buy a license per programmer or person that acutally uses the source code, so each person has access to the password protected support area of the site. Our goal is to get lots of good products, so each developer can work on multiple products.
What we won't allow is having one person buy the source, copy it, and give it to multiple developers. That is not in the spirit of the agreement, and will not allow us to stay in business.

Are we allowed to make freeware games or games that we don't publish?

My understanding about freeware is that you can only release the game through GG but you pretty much set the price you want for your games. So, if you decided to charge a hundred bucks a download for your game then GG would probably advise against it but let you do it (course if you only sell one copy you've made $50 =). I would think that you would also be able to choose to give it away. But, you can release it only through GG unless you work out some deal with them.

You can make all the games you want that you don't publish. As long as you don't publish the games, you won't owe GG anything beyond the price of the licenses. My understanding about freeware is that you can only release the game through GG but you pretty much set the price you want for your games. 1)Well what we were planning on doing a MMORPG that's free to download but you have to pay a certain amount per month to play... How owuld that work?
2)Are we allowed to give a copy of like the editors, terrain generator, etc... to our modelers and non-programming developers if the programmers buy the license for themselves?

2) Yes as long as they aren't doing anything with the source code. You can send them the compiled executables all day long.

1) I believe that you could release the client for free (through GG of course =) but GG will have to get a certain percentage of the monthly fee. The percentage will have to be negotiated on a product-by-product basis. There is a more complete discussion about MMO games at Licensing with pay to play games2) Yes as long as they aren't doing anything with the source code.
