Oil Cooled PC

Wow don't try this at home. Neat article on experiments with oil cooled pc's.
I don't know if they mentioned how flammable that could be. Heck I used just a little veggie oil and paper towles to start bar-b-que charcoal. That stuff burns good and slow.

Water can conduct. Veggie oil does not.

They all conduct... just depends on how well ;)

Distilled water, pure water, doesn't conduct electricity very well, in fact the only way water conducts electricity is by the impurities in the water. That's actually the premise behind that experiment. I have some great pictures of this, I will try to hunt them down.

Water still requires encapsulation of contacts.

That's probably why it didn't last very long. We didn't do much prep wotk to it, other that silicon the seams. I think I deleted all the pictures as I can't find them. But it was a great project anyway. We might try the oil cooled after I recover from surgery. I have several old PIII's laying around begging to be blown up.

Do you guys live in Hell or something? Is it really that serious to keep your PC cool? Pouring oil in your whole PC. Gross...

Next up, AntiFreeze cooled PC's

Lol You can fry chicken while surfing the net. Just don't knock it over or ever try to change your video card.

@dreamer - My main gaming machine is a liquid cooled machine. The liquid is half water, half Preston, just like you would put in a car. Liquid cooled machines are not that uncommon.

For me, it's not about keeping cool. Most of the stuff I do is about winning bets. Even proving something that no one believes, or even blowing stuff up. @dreamer - My main gaming machine is a liquid cooled machine. How hot does your PC get if it needs liquid cooling? Mine only gets to 40C at full usage!

It probably doesn't, but I found plans for a waterblock for a P4 and I just happened to have a copper block, a heater core from an 87 chevette, a length if hose, and a couple of hours of free time.

The basic physics are the use of electricity and it's eventual conversion to thermal energy. The more you draw the more it cooks. And yea I know you guys know that just chatting about it.

Most of the liquid cooling requirements come from the overclocking crowd. Not production IC's. Production IC's are tested and simulated using stock cooling in abusive environments. I saw that oil cooled pc a while ago.........i've been considering trying it.....but like Ajari said..... u can't really do anything after that, at least not without pumping out all the oil and cleaning it before u change ANYTHING....... it might make sense if u have a noisy behemoth for a pc......if i ever decide to try it i'll be sure to post.EDIT:

I just recently had another back surgey, but when I get mobile again, I want to try the cooking oil pc.
