I'm gonna lower the weapon effects, i have had some complains about that too..
And graphically(besides the weapons) , you found it enjoyable ?
EDIT: I was expecting that with the gamepad, it was a long shot..., i'l definetly need to get one

By balancing you mean the game is too hard ?I'm gonna lower the weapon effects, i have had some complains about that too..

Lowering the weapon effects might help. I assume that the ship has all this weapons at once because its demo, am I right? In the "full" the player first has to get the somehow as in RType and other games like that?! (or at least switch between them as in Nanostray)
On the gamepad: Did you add the needed keymap for joystick / joypad? I manually enabled joystick in prefs.cs, but it didn't change anything ...

At the moment, yes its too "hard". The enemies move quite fast and are large, a combination that I don't think is suited for this type of game.Lowering the weapon effects might help. Lol, Bruno... i gave it a try.. it's way to hard, the effects make the game too noisy, the enemys are too strong (or your weapons too weak) The background doesnt contrast with the foreground enough to tell when there is a barrier.

I think it's too hard because i choosen the wrong level to showcase the game (i hope this is the reason).,
i placed level8 in the demo, which is way to hard for someone to start playing from ground zero, i should have gone with one of the first levels of the game.
Either way, i will decrease the size of the enemies and take down some of their health.
I'l add a sounds fx\music sound volume in the options menu too..
I uploaded the demo again with level2, one of the first levels, which should be much easier than the one you guys played.., do you mind taking another shot at it ? :):):)
Marc, yeah i was binding the joystick, but i made a mistake there, i changed it, hopefully it works now..
The weapons, we have a menu to choose the weapons at each change of level.
thanks,
Bruno

Have to agree that the background looks too much like foreground. There is no real distinction.
In a stressy situation, this leads to a crashes that are not really needed ...
Some general comments:
Option Dialog:
- A possibility to switch to joystick would be nice
- Resolutions: Its nice that you preset some, but showing all avaiable would be nicer. I've a 1280x800 resolution as most notebooks and only having 4:3 to choose is normally the first reason I drop a game. (they get stretched non uniform due to it)
Using the package builder would be a desirable option as there are some files remaining that should not be in (like the .gui for option screen)
Using joystick still does not work. Checking the prefs I haven't see a map for it as well, so perhaps thats the reason. (tried with both analog sticks as well as the D-Pad)

There is a little "cosmetical" error in as well: Your company logo at the start is cut of at the left side (the glowing of the letters shows that).Have to agree that the background looks too much like foreground. There is no real distinction.

I also feel that the background should maybe be desaturated just a bit, or tinted somehow, to help seperate it from the action and foreground, possibly add some hazy/cloud particle effect to bring down the saturation.
I think the player's movement could be a bit faster, and definitely faster in the reverse direction, you move a bit too slow for comfort in reverse and I think it's due to the speed being about the same as the scrolling speed.
cool stuff though, it's nice to see other TGB/t2D dev's making shooters, I'm working on one myself and think they are a fun genre that will never die.

I played it on the "bring em on" difficulty, it's not too harsh but I'd remove the enemy fights that come flying from behind the player, or at least give some type of warning to their location. Possibly reduce the collision/hitbox for the player since it felt like bullets were colliding with transparent space.I also feel that the background should maybe be desaturated just a bit, or tinted somehow, to help seperate it from the action and foreground, possibly add some hazy/cloud particle effect to bring down the saturation.

Looking interesting (for a fan of this type of "frustrating" games ... I have Nanostray for NDS which goes into the "great but great frustration" category as well ;-))
EDIT: It somehow has some serious problems ... the option button does not bring up the option dialog, so changing the settings is not possible.
With default settings, the game does not react to any gamepad input at all.
There is definitely a great need for balancing and I would suggest to do a better weapon system. The whole screen is just flooded with effects, which does not make it enjoyable to play.
