Just wondering...

I was wondering how many people bought Torque when they got this book, and followed the book with no problem with the Indie license, NOT the Torque that comes with the book. I'm finding it very hard to follow in almost every way. When it says to launch Torque, I'm not sure what it's asking me to launch. Help is graciously accepted :D.

The example folder is what you have if you run one of the emaga installs from the 3DGPAIO book, only it has more stuff than the book version. The book version is pretty well cleaned up, with as little "clutter" as possible.
It might be wise to work through the book with the version that comes on the book's CD. Once you gain an understanding of how things work, then try to make it work with the latest TGE. There are many differences between 1.4 and 1.2 (which is what comes with the book IIRC).
Keep posting here. There is tons of help to be had. The search function at the top of the page works nicely most of the time as well.
Time for me to get back to the book too... ;)

You copy the Torque "example" folder. This is where your scripts, executable, and data for your game are kept. Make a copy so you have a backup in case of any difficulties. The example folder is what you have if you run one of the emaga installs from the 3DGPAIO book, only it has more stuff than the book version. Had some issue with one of the earlier chapters, one of the bits with the hearts... but after that it was ok.
BUT!
After those early issues, to avoid more problems I started to not type code from the book anymore.
What I do is go through the code line by line to make sure I have a clue about what's going on then I grab the code from the CD resource and save it into my own book related folder.
The book is not as good as I was hoping in terms of content and way to explain things... (of course I hope it will get better later on in the following chapters) but it is the only book out there for now (not for long thanks God!) so no much choice.
