3DSMax 8, Main Toolbar, how to change it?

Could someone please list a step by step newbie guide as to how I can customize the annoying Main Toolbar?
I would be so appreciative.
I made the switch to 3DSMax 8, unfortunately the main Toolbar is very different from my prior Gmax setup. In particular I want to remove the following circled items...
home.comcast.net/~royvega1/max_toolbar.jpg
and replace them with the Green items.
Anyone might know how I can do this? I tried creating my own custom Toolbar, but then I wasn't able to create it the right way (it ended up missing some of the selection naming menues and such)
Again a step by step guide (since the Customize UI menu is so confusing) would be much appreciated.

If I need snaps for vertice desparkling or because of some sort of floating point problem, I'll flip them on/set them up using the Shift+Right mouse, or I'll turn the menu on. We have a tool that desparkles our mesh if we wanted to round vertices to the nearest hundreth etc. So the snaps are not needed (I'm also big on Transform Type In to get things zeroed out).
My reference tells me how to create my own toolbars, which I did but was not able to find all of the items on the Main Toolbar.
If there is a way to edit the main toolbar, I'd sure like to know.

Don't mean to sound depreciative, but I'm looking to set myself up for automation. Meaning I need my UI setup where I can access the items I need as quickly as possible based on my modeling/construction habits. Our project won't be using any linking to space warps, and I detest snaps. Does that help?

I forgot to add that if you ctrl+LMB from the axis toolbar to the main toolbar it will copy the button, where the alt+LMB method will move the button.

Ok, just quickly glancing at the toolbar if you alt+LMB a button from the tool bar into a viewport it will ask you if you want to delete the button.Does that help?

I'd try and learn snaps properly, Object and subobject snaps in 3D are one of the most useful tools for a modeler in 3dsmax. Most experienced artists I have worked with use them 90% of the time in one form or another in almost every aspect of modeling and manipulation. Can't imagine not using them actually.

Just to add with what Adrian said. Even though you can turn on and off those three snap tools via shortcut keys its pretty important that you keep them there. A) Many of these tools have a pull-down option so that you can select variants of the snap (ie. 2D snap, 2.5D snap, 3D Snap) and B) If you right click on the tool you can access the "snap settings" options. As such I think you would be crippling yourself pretty good if you nuked those options from the toolbar.

Its not that I want to completely nuke them. Yes you're right they make things pretty quick. I won't argue. I tend to use them about 30% of the time (especially when I have trouble with sub-object vertice editing). I just am not used to them being on the main bar.
I'm used to them being down below the Key Frame bar thingy. As such I wanted to just use the Snap Toolbar instead (and just move it to the bottom).
thanks again
best regards

BTW Space Warp Binding, window crossing and snaps are very important you don't want to remove those
also Axis constrant can be achomplished with the transformation gizmo.
