Snow Texture

I have started on precipitation for my game, and everything is going fine so far, with one exception.
I wish to create a texture for the snowfall, but I'm unsure of how to set up the transparency colour for it, just as the rain texture is set up to be.
Is there a certain program I would require, or is there some way I can code in the transparency manually?
Thank you.

SnowFlakes
1) take black construction paper, fold in 4's and cut up the edges to make a (black)Snowflake ala. Kindergarden
2) Lay on scanner - and, well, scan...
3) import to Gimp or photoShop
4) Paste on white background and then Invert colors,
5) scale, copy, paste as needed
6) add alpha channel
Done.
If anyone gets to try this let me know how it works ;-)

Hehe i came up with a cool idea for making snow-flakes the other day; haven't gotten to try it yet though.SnowFlakes

Could you do it procedurally? I just saw the demo for Spore and I figure that must have been pretty easy to make all that [/silliness]

6 steps, 6 points, coincidence? I think not!...

Uhh, but Will Wright had a team of nina-like Norweigen Programmers, locked in a room with hundreds of pizzas for six months.

1) Choose Custom Shape Tool
2) In horizontal Options Bar across the top, click on the menu labeled "Shape" (the blue part with the triangle)
3) From that menu, choose "Nature", and then "Append"
Now you'll have three snowflake shapes to choose from which can be created by using the Custom Shape Tool.

And if you want more snowflakes than that, you can search around the web for more.

By the way, Photoshop comes with some snowflake shapes you can create by using the Custom Shape Tool. It's a "hidden" tool found just under the Text tool in the tool palette. You'll have to use the menu in the options bar to load them in though.1) Choose Custom Shape Tool
