Alternative Compilers

Just wondering if any effort was being made to port the code to allow the engine to compile under a wider range of available C++ compilers. Some of the discussions I've read suggest that inexpensive MS C++ tools are getting harder to find. Has anyone looked at using Borland's free compiler. Other ones include Digital Mars and, if it ever materializes, OpenWatcom.

I think that GarageGames has attracted a lot of indie developers who are also necessarily cost-conscious. It seems that MS is pricing itself out of the reach of many honest Torque users.

Shameless linux plug. Try it. Redhat 7.2 (for example) works well as a torque development environment. Its certainly much cheaper than anything microsoft has to offer.
