Torque on the Nintendo Revolution

by Dark Tengu · in General Discussion · 02/25/2006 (11:30 am) · 16 replies

With the cost of the Nintendo dev kits being $2,000, what is the possiblity of Torque being ported to the Nintendo Revolution?

I think that it would be absolutely amazing if it was...I can always dream.

$2,000 (two thousand)?? You didn't mean $200,000 (two hundred thousand) did you?

$2,000 sounds freaky. I can't imagine those numbers to be correct - unless Nintendo want's 10,000 games for the Revolution.

As it turns out, that is the currently rumored number. It's been mentioned in the past that Nintendo hasn't been reaching out to indie communities/developers (such as us!) with much information at all, but this is certainly both a surprise and a delight, and I'm confident that GG will be researching how we can work with them. That's not a promise, just a guess--but the price is a most hopeful announcement!

Maybe its something like the old Xbox debug and PS2 test kits. Would be cool though, Sony already said they were going to be including indies on their HUB (Xbox live equivalent service)

Take a look on IGN, the actual number is $2,000. J also saw it on GameDev.net.

Jesus christ, so they are aiming at 10,000 games after all! Admittedly a pretty smart move by Nintendo. This will surely bring developers to the platform. Earlier, specualtions was all about Nintendo being the only developer, as it would a difficult process to port a XBOX360 or Playstation 3 game to it, due to the lower hardware and due to the strange(wonderful) controller, but this will probably solve that... and if a Revolution will be $150 - $200, am i most definatley buying one!

Errm, IGN has also reported that the Revolution will cost anywhere from $150 to $200, and that some studios already have dev kits. I would be more inclined to wait until a studio who's gotten one speaks out and says something concrete. Sometimes IGN gets a litte over excited...

The cost of the development kit has absolutely nothing to do with how many games there will be for the Revoultion. I know it will be EXTREMELY difficult to get a dev. kits. Though it has nothing to do with the Revolution, my recent blog post about how difficult the XB360 Live Arcade will be for Indies applies even more to Nintendo.

Yeah, whether your game can get on a console has more to do with whether they are interested in your game, than whether you have the tools to make it happen. Still it's interesting to see that Nintendo are providing cheap dev kits, and Sony announced support for indie games for their online 'Hub' service. (Rival to Xbox live). Wonder how theirs will compare to Microsofts excellent offering.

It's like the world of independent developers is crashing.

If only we could have more organizations GG and IDEA games.... http://www.idea-games.com/
I think it would be cool if GG looked into that, definately a group to check out!

It will be much easier to get a kit for Nintendo Revolution. I can't say more than that. One thing I can say is that Nintendo does have a nice little place for Indies, time will tell.

Wow... I think I'm beginning to see the light of what i've stepped into. To think, I could (VERY, VERY POSSIBLY) make a game that would run on the Revolution... Creepy, no? Think of the mayhem I could spread...

Indies dev-ing on the Revolution - it could happen.

I suggest those of you who need to know to look into it, you won't be disappointed! I should know... ;)

I'm confused by the last few comments here...

Are there some people "in the know" here?
