Sony PS3 in trouble?

Sony's PS3 is coming out way above costs according to rumors.
Something like $900's per unit. Also something about it's going to take 3 years to get the
price down to $300 a unit.
Seems to me XBox 360 is gonna take even more market share during this delay getting PS3 to market?

It's a matter of Degrees of Freedom. The PS3 kludge is very obviously just Sony going "Uh-oh... we better make it look like we've always intended to have that too!"
It's sounding like Sony might be last to market this time, too... I'm inclined to think that could hurt them in the long run.

Ehrm... the similarity is pretty weak, though... Much more limited movement. With the Wii, it's like you move the controller to play the game, but with the PS3 it's more like as you use the controller and you bend it left or right, it can detect that it's been tilted. It's a matter of Degrees of Freedom. The real "revolution" about Nintendo's Wii is not *just* that it is motion sensitive. It's the design of it. Removing the look and feel of a joystick automatically creates a disconnect in the mind of the consumer and the developer. I have come up with a bunch of ideas for games using the Wiimote, not because it is motion sensitive, but because it is a STICK. It's a damn stick. Everyone knows how to interact with a stick. Your grandma can pick up a stick and wave it. It's a stick.
Compare that to the PS3 controler. It's a DualShock 2 with crappy motion sensing. That's not evolution, innovation, or any other word that ends with 'tion' that means anything positive. It's garbage. The dual-analog controler only seems to be the perfect controler for video games because we've never had anything else.
The input system of the Wii inspires. It's the controler design that puts it far, far above Sony's offering. The PS3 controler will, most likely, be totally un-used because a dual-analog controler with motion sensing is next to useless for any kind of creative input solution.
Here's the other thing: Every console sells out at launch. They are "designed" to sell out at launch and create a sense of urgancy and rarity. It's a marketing thing. The guy who made the Pet Rock sold it to enough people to make a bunch of money. That doesn't make the rock any good.
It should be noted that my opinion is my own, and doesn't reflect the opinion of GarageGames or anyone else. This should go without saying, but I want to be clear.

Okay, Just one thing to say here, when the competition for PS3 is Microcrap (manages to cram 3 bugs into 512kb of security code) ... even if it is $900 worth it to have a real system.Buy Xbox ... support terrorism.

I think they're going to have a hard time being top dog this time around when you could buy 2 and a half Nintendos for the price of one Sony.

Michael - How is it that Nintendo isn't competition? I mean, Sony felt the need to hack their controller to support jerry-rigged motion sensing just to say "see, we're just like Nintendo!"I think they're going to have a hard time being top dog this time around when you could buy 2 and a half Nintendos for the price of one Sony.

For what it's worth, I have more fun coding games and graphic demos than playing them anyway... but when I do game, it's on my PC most of the time.
Still, the Wii is innovative enough that I do expect to give it a go when we get one.
