TGE won't start?
by Nate Nielsen · in General Discussion · 02/03/2006 (3:49 pm) · 2 replies
I've installed the SDK.
Attempting to run the torqueDemo.exe file and it seems to do nothing.
I've searched through the documentation, and have tried a number of command line params, but unfortunately, it does the same exact thing - skip a line (in the dos window) and return prompt.
It seems it tries to start, then kills itself.
It does spawn a process for about 750ms in the task manager, just a generic svchost.exe process. - so it IS doing something.
-This same results happens with all of the torque exe's, except the ToreqShowToolPro, it actually prompts an application error: instruction at "0x7c911de" referenced memory at "0x00000080". The memory could not be "read" (okay to terminate, cancel to debug)
(i've posted my dxdiag information at bottom of post)
can someone please help?
-I'm clueless why it is crashing and nothing in the doucmentation addresses the app simply not starting.

You are a Genius this fixed my Torque 3D problem. Many many thanks for posting this.
Torque Owner Nate Nielsen
I noticed there was a problem with direct input on my dxdiag (type dxdiag in dos prompt window)
After som sniffing around the web and ultimately some newsgroups, it seems the latest direct x version (9.0c) has some issues with HID compliant USB devices.
To fix this i went into the device manager, found any "HID" compatible USB devices and disabled them. I wish I could give you details on exactly which devices had problems (I disabled 6 of them) - but I used the device manager rather than physically unplugging each one after the other.
Hope this helps others.
