New Water/Atlas Effects

by Jacob Dankovchik · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 01/28/2006 (8:33 pm) · 116 replies

Since the shore topic was getting just too big to manage, I decided it would be much easier to move the conversation into here.

I'm still working on the effects, trying to get them right. Right now I'm messing with under-surface and distance darkening. Tell me what you think of these pics of the surface as you sink.

I'm still messing around, trying to get this is absolutley accuate as possible. Still not sure what to do about the world edges.. I guess I could leave that to the artists to handle...

Hmm, I see theres still some interest brewing. Well, unfortunatly, still nothing I feel ready to release. However I'm currently thinking over some ideas. I beleive I finally came up with a solution to a major problem I was having.

@Jacob: Monster-super-big interest in water effects you made. Even if it is only a 50% solution, it would be cool if you release it somehow. It can be then patched step by step to archive better results.

Having a 50% shoreline effect is better than no shoreline to me :-)
(but your solution even looks to me like a 100% solution!)

Ok, well. Heres the deal. This has been quiet for a while, comming up every now and then. And in here I keep mentioning workin on it, releasing, etc. However I just cant quite seem to get around to it. And I'm leaving for Basic Training soon, so thats about 2 and a half months I'll be outta here, not workin one bit.

So, tell ya what. I'll try to get some finishing bits done before i ship out. And then few days before I do, i'll post this up, no matter what its status. Anyone has a problem, they'll be left to sort it themselves.

I'd be willing to pay for a water block that washes up and down the shore and has white at the edges like:

I've been able to tweak the regular waterblock to look very close to the second screen above but I saw you guys had done some white surf work and was wondering if you might release it for $?

Jacob sent the code to GG. Not sure if they ever looked at it though.

I don't believe I ever saw it. Don't know if it's in someone else's inbox.

Uhh Navy bootcamp must have changed since I went, they let you use the internet? lol. I did it a little over 6 years ago and there was no chance in hell of getting anywhere near a computer.

I was in 5 years ago and they had internet terminals in lots of places at great lakes.
