Moding: Is it just me or has . . .

Everyday I visit the sites PlanetHalflife.com, PlanetQUake.com, and PlanetBattlefield.com 3 of the hottest games, or supposedly. But it seems like theres a lack of news for mods, and lack of creativity? I remember back when Half-Life/Quake 2/3 came out modding was the hottest thing. There was a mod released atleast every other week pretty much. On these sites, I don't any creativity, or mods being released?
Is it just me or has modding gone down hill?

Morrowind summit also has mods every day.
Modding for Battlefield, HL(2) and Quake is just so tedious and inefficient, noone bothers anymore. It's 2005, nothing should need days of compiling or scripts for absoluitly everying ever in the game. Unreal and Torque have easy workflows that can be used in both Art and Programming.

You forgot PlanetUnreal.com - the UnrealEngine is the Best engine to mod. All you need is Maya PLE and UnrealEd. It has mods released every hours.Morrowind summit also has mods every day.

So yeah, modding for the newer engines has gone downhill. But stuff is still being made for older engines and other game platforms like RTS' which is easier for small teams of part-time developers.

I do not think it is a lack of creativity. For the newer engines it just takes what seems like 10 times more work to create art content (way more meshes, textures, and animations). It also takes newer tools and techniques people are still getting used to. Creating a character or level for Half-Life 1 is very different from creating one for Half-Life 2.So yeah, modding for the newer engines has gone downhill. All the really creative modders from "back in the day" got snatched up by the industry. But that doesn't mean there are no creative mods coming out. Check out this list of the best mods of 2005:http://features.moddb.com/218/?fpage=0
Torque Owner Jason Farmer
I've never been a bit follower of the Mod Scene, played CS a bit but that's it.
These days I don't understood why anyone would put so much effort into creating something they have no chance of selling.
Saying that, I did my fair share of Doom editing in my time.. levels, sprites, Exe hacks to change weapons... Made a flamethrower and a nice slowmoving BFG, but I never published anything and there wasn't anything even remotely similar to Torque at the time.
New game engines seem to offer a lot, but the amount of work involved is so much more than the Early Doom days, I don't know where the Mod teams get their energy from ;-)
