Tge? T2d?

Hello, everybody!
I was wondering how easy TGE and T2D are.
I've done some basic programming in the past with Visual Basic under Windows OS and today I'd like to program little games for my new Mac.
Problem is I have only very basic theoretical knowledge of C++ and never programmed under Mac.
Do you think it would be unrealistic to try to make some game programming with TGE and/or T2D?
Which one would you advise? I'd probably be aiming at 2D games, but 3D engine is very possible for most of the games I have in mind, anyway, so it would be more like which one of the two engines is easiest to learn and use.
Thanks for all your insights.
