Assertion failed on skin object -3dsmax7

Hi all
I have been trying to export my character ,but while exporting i keep getting this error :"Assertion failed on skin object "...... Ive checked the vertex weights it seems to be ok...
I tried to export the green guy which ships with the engine but that also does not seem to export at all,
can anybody tell me the procedure for exporting a character rom 3ds max ... the TDN link for this doesnot work..

Sometimes this error can be caused by the Multires mesh. Try to regenerate the Multires data on the modifier or rebuilt the mesh with the snapshot tool, add the multires data to it, link and try again.

If it's not already, convert it to editable mesh, I tried exporting some meshes with bones yesterday and got the error is the mesh was editable poly. After converting it to editable mesh, it exported ok.
