Web hosting for Garage Game Makers.

by AzraelK · in General Discussion · 03/04/2002 (8:30 pm) · 17 replies

Hi everyone, I was wondering if someone could recommend a good web hosting / (perhaps game hosting) service for
our team. We have a webpage but our bandwidth limit is really low and so is our webspace. If possible we would like one with PHP or ASP services.

By the way

Is garagegames considering hosting webpages/gameservers for advanced/demo or finished games?

We ahve thought about it, but for the immediate future the answer is no. We simply have too many other issues to attend to.

Try searching for "Web Hosting" with a search engine, and look around for the best deal. I have to tell you now that it's unlikely anything free will come your way...

www.stormhosts.com --> cheap, but unreliable.... not recommended for company website
www.hostingshop.com.au --> bit more expensive, but still cheap, and quit fast

What does this server support? ASP? PHP? Perl? CGI .... etc?

All of the above.

I let all users use what ever cgi and perl scripts they want as long as they dont put too much of a strain on the server.

But the server supports php, asp, cgi, perl, ect.

mySQL yes we support it.

If you wish to setup a phpnuke or postnuke style website we can help you do that also. www.ageofdarkness.tv is a postnuke website and www.mimesisonline.info is a phpnuke style website that has been heavly moded.

Only thing that we DO require is that your website be about a independent game or gaming website or about a independent game company.

are you serious? Access for the web? I don't think that's a good idea... ;) Why don't you use mySQL - it supports even transactions now, it's stable and reliable - and its free!

I have used WebServePro for a couple of years now, for several business ventures, including games:

WebServePro

They have a good backbone with a lot of available bandwidth, and they provide good service. They offer "MUD-hosting", or did, and they've hosted our online game Artifact since late 1999, so they're open to hosting all sorts of things.

They're not free, but they're rates are good.

What do you think Shawn? lol, game servers require a lot of bandwidth and well... a website host is not where you're going to get it.

Sorry I cant offer server hosting (just webhosting) for the time being. We are in the process of gearing up to launch our gameing service that will allow us to host servers for a wide selection of games. But untell it is fully setup I can not offer it to people yet.

I'll be sure to post it up here as soon as its up and running.

Webhosting I can do though. Just drop me a email and I'll get back with you.

Well Matt, I do understand they take a lot of bandwidth. That is why I asked him if he offered it, and it looks like he plans on doing so. I am amazed at how you snipe at people.

Sorry, it's tough keeping people apart. Lots of people are running around asking things that were answered 2 minutes back, or claiming they are making the next great MMORPG, or some other annoying thing.

Some people are actually asking reasonable questions.

I just thought your post was more along the lines of "can j00 host my game on your servers for free?" instead of a serious inquiry. My bad. I've just been having to deal with a lot of crap in-team and well, it's sort of coming out in other areas. Sorry about that, I'll try not to smack anyone except the punks ;)
