How do you delete an Action?
by JohnT · in Artist Corner · 01/15/2006 (12:10 pm) · 7 replies
Anyone know how to completely remove an Animation Action from a project completely?
I came across mention of using the Append from File to go into the project and wack the action directly. I tried this but keep getting an error. I'm sure there must be a way to do.
Thanks!

I have tried numerous variations of pressing the F key but have had no luck. I should mention that I am using version 2.4, although I went back to 2.37 to see if this makes any difference and it did not.
Am I misunderstanding how to do this?

When you mention the Action Directory, are you referring to the list of actions available from the Action Editor? If so, when I click on the up/down arrow next to the dropdown box I see a list of my actions and they all have an F to the left of the name. When I select the one I want to delete, I get a button to the right that has a 2 for the number of users of the data and an X next to it.I have tried numerous variations of pressing the F key but have had no luck. Also be sure you are not using the action you want to delete with any object in the project. Then use the previous procedure.

Sorry: I was meaning after using the Append from file menu and once you are inside the actions directory of your file, then do the F stuff. It should work both in 2.4 and 2.37 versions, AFAIK...Also be sure you are not using the action you want to delete with any object in the project. Then use the previous procedure.

No luck, I don't even see the letter "F" in the directory under Actions. I wonder if deleting actions in this manner has been removed.

I really hate that part of Blender. It's just so stupid.

It's possible to delete things from the directories like that, but it's ridiculously difficult. It involved deleting, saving, quitting Blender, re-opening, loading, checking the results, etc. If you see an "F" next to an item, you're in luck. That means the system's holding on to the item by placing a Fake "user" (user as in an object - action, mesh, IPO, etc). Hit "F" on that item so the result hopefully goes to "1" or "0".I really hate that part of Blender. It's just so stupid.

Yeah! Apparently it makes a difference using the Shift + F4 instead of using the Append approach. Thanks go out to all of you guys; this one has been bugging me for some time now.
