Sidescroll shooter art

Who owns the rights to the sidescrolling shooter art? There is a shield pickup that I am using in my game (it's the music beat for The Funk). I've created a few different ripples and animations to replace it but everyone I talk to thinks the bubble makes a better beat.
Who do I have to talk to to obtain permission to use it?

Could someone please tell me who the artist is so I can include their name in the credits.

Melv - I reveived an email from Stephen and Alex that said the art was done by Alex's roommate and that GG owned the rights to it.
