Cascading mount points?

Have been thinking about this for alittle while to attempt to get over the 8 mount point limit without having to modify the source.
What I am hoping to acheive is this.. A base node under player control, with 2 mount points, mount1 for legs and mount2 for torso. the on the leg mesh mount1 and mount2 for feet, and the torso mount1 and mount2 for arms, with mount3 and mount4 for shoulders, mount5 for backpack, mount6 for head. and so on.
Would this cause any problems? The only things I could think of would be network traffic, and the trick of animating all the parts.
The other nice thing about this would be the ability to un-mount a part, possibly leaving it on the ground. for others to pick up.. think cyborgs reusing body parts, and upgrading exisiting bits much like a hermit crab ugrading his shell..
