Website Design Comments?

I have been hard at work with php, website design and integrating it with our game demo. Well, the good thing is that our game demo can now update the player stats that are viewable on the website (allthough we have not released this game yet).

I would like to receive some feedback regarding our website. I think a good layout for a website can go a long way. Functionality is also key, which is why I chose to write all the code on the site from scratch. The design is original. As I still have a few broken links and have to add a few more components to the site, I am just looking at feedback on the design for now.

What do you think?

Thank you to anyone who takes their time to give me feedback, it is much appreciated!

Anthony,

Just a few quick thoughts.

I love the logo. It's a clean design and it looks very cool. It kind of reminds me a bit of the Green Lantern logo (from the comic books).

The banner at the top is a little confusing though. I had to study it for a while to figure out that the object on the left is a palm tree (maybe). And I'm still not sure what the image on the right is. It might be building surrounded by particle fire. Just a guess. Either way, more recognizable objects would be cool -- maybe something that's easily associated with the games you're working on.

The copyright notice at the bottom is kind of hard to read. Maybe you could try a different font.

Other than that, I can't think of anything. I'm definitely not a web designer though, so my opinion shouldn't really count much. :)

Good luck,

Aaron E.

It's nice how your forums tie into the site - but I do not like there flow.

Other then that great site. Like he said ^^ great logo!

(I don't like that shade of green - but that's just me. :P)

Great comments, thank you :)

What about the flow of the forums do you not like? How can I make it better?

Thanks again!

I'm used to phpBB style forums so maybe it's just me but it seems that when there are a lot of posts it will be hard to keep track of what's important. I see no place to notify you if a post is new and there is no search function.

Like I said before they match the rest of the site great so phpBB or another forum really isn't worth it if it doesn't connect to the rest of the site as well as your current one does.

It may be just me and my phpBB ways ;)

Cool, good advice! I am programming the forum form scratch, so some of the functionality is still needed.

One thing I have noticed while doing this is that doing everything from scratch has a lot of benefits. If anything goes wrong with the site or forums, since I am the one who coded them, I will know exactly where to go and what to do to fix it. Plus, you can add whatever features you need, and not have something that is bloated, and ahrd to keep track of.

Thank you for the comments Mr. Pig.

Keep em coming :)

It looks good to me. It is clean and tasteful which is unfortunately rare in website design these days.

Good looking site. Clean, simple, and an eye catching color scheme. I like the pic on top, and like Mr. Pig says, the forum connects well with your site. Just can't believe you're coding it - I can't get enough time to work on the programs themselves. As much as I'd like to code my own so it works the way I want, I'd be lost without phpBB, SMF, and some of the CMSs and shopping carts out there ready to install and configure. That 32 hours I spend a day now just wouldn't be enough time.

Actually, coding it doesn't take too much time, and the game itself is very simple and 95% complete. As long as you stay with a structured coding style, it should just fly by (not too mention php/mysql are a perfect match for each other, making it even easier).

Thanks again for all your comments and suggestions, they are very welcome.

The 'v1.1' at the top right corner is strange text. Seems outta place. Don't know what
is for or why it is there.
You have some menu text links, but I think most people list them at the bottom center of the page.
And it's 2006.
