I thought it was a great movie. I am a big fan of the book and I think they did a great job with the movie overall. If you hate religious themed movies, you probably won't like it though.

It's a great movie! The movie's storyline stayed pretty close to the book(for people who haven't read the book - That's a good thing!).
By the way, Douglas Gresham was the radio announcer at the begining of the movie! I thought that was kind of cool.

I saw it last night. Loved it. Its only flaw was probably that it stuck TOO closely to the book - some things that work great for novels don't work quite so well translated paragraph-by-paragraph to the screen.

But man - if you've ever wondered what a huge battle between mythological creatures would look like (Griffins, centaurs, fauns, cyclops, giants, minotaurs, etc.) - well, watch it and now you'll know.

I was expecting a certain amount of cheese factor from what I had seen in the previews. I was very pleasantly surprised that this wasn't the case =) It's not another Lord of the Rings but it is a movie I would gladly recommend to anyone.

USA Today called it LOTR lite. I agree 100%. This movie is The Lord of the Rings for kids. Adults will enjoy it and kids will love it. It's not the best made kids movie, I think that The Goonies holds that honor, but it is as good as the best Harry Potter movies... well, somewhere between 3 and 4. Very good. Worth seeing for sure.

I predict... that in 2010 we will be able to make full time movies with TSE version 5.0b
(pure fantasy)

I thought it was ok ... not as good as Harry Potter IMO but that's probably because I wasn't actually expecting a kids movie. I thought it was going to be a slightly older affair than it was. Still the battles were pretty cool with all the mythical beasts.

I used to think the Goonies was a kids movie too until I went to show it to my own kids and realized just how much foul language and inuendo are in there.

Personally, i liked Naria much more then Harry Potter, and LOTR. Why? Because that Knight period, aswell as the 1920's - 1940's are my favorite time period. This movie has both, not only that but it has great lessons.

My wife and I just got back from watching it - she was kind of disappointed, and I was like "meh". The kids liked it though.

I don't think it was bad, but not great either. Visually it looked great, but the battle scene was not as grand as I hoped, and didn't show much battle strategy. I guess it's not bad for a kids movie, but I think any one of the Harry Potter movies are better.

Well, i think the battle scene was meant to be small. Who wants to have tons of blood and gore in a kids movie? I think that the movie was more based upon lessons we learn. For example, the boy learned not to be selfish, and that because of being selfish he hurt others. So on, anyways.

Is it just me or was lucy hott at the end of the movie? When she was older, on the horse.

@Chris - right at this moment I wish I was a website hacker so I could prank erase the last line of your post and leave you with just "Is it just me or was lucy hot at the end of the movie?". LOL

Maybe The Harry Potter movies are more exiting, better graphics, etc... But the meaning of the movies are total opposites.

I thought it was great.
they really took a cue from LOTR as far as staying true to the original author's vision, IMO.

i was sort of hoping they'd spare us the Yet-Another-Amazing-Cinematic-Computer-Generated-Armies-Colliding scene altogether,
but i guess it was sort of hard to get around it since it's in the book and all.

the CG animals were amazing.

interesting to call it 'LOTR lite' because that's pretty much exactly what the original books were built as.
lewis and tolkien were close friends, and Narnia was heavily LOTR-inspired.
a lot of folks don't know it, but tolkien considered LOTR a deeply christian story as well.
- which bugged me as a teenager but now i don't mind it.
