Demo ridiculously fast

by Ryan Scott · in Torque Game Engine · 12/01/2005 (1:36 pm) · 11 replies

I just tried the demo, have not purchased yet.

The demo runs so fast that its over in about 10 seconds. Each section just blows by, running at what appears to be top speed. I mean way too fast, skipping dozens of frames at a time.

I am running a brand new machine, dual core processor, dual SLI nvidias.

I'm wondering why the demo would run like this - is it coded wrong?

I want to get into torque, leave Blitz, but it's difficult to make the decision if the demo doesn't even run properly.

Other games work fine on my machine, by the way.

Someone please help this noob!

Thanks

Ryan Scott

That fixed it! Thanks!

wow, i'm pretty impressed with the demo, and also how quickly I got help!

I wonder if you could direct me to the best torque examples people have created?

i am also wondering about garage games. Is torque going to be sticking around? Has the company been growing?

one problem with Blitz development is that it's still essentially just one guy doing everything. You just don't get the tools and it doesn't advance as fast as it should.

Ryan,

TGE absolutely rocks. Hands down, but it's a fickle mistress as well! Thing is, it's a fully featured, professional grade engine - which loosely translated means it's not for the weak at heart or those unwilling to ply some time to a serious learning curve (assuming you;ve not dealt with engines which give you the actual source code).

TGE is basically an improved version of the Tribes 2 engine. It just rolled to version 1.4 prior to Thanksgiving, but this has been touted as the last "free" upgrade.

It's still quite viable, but methinks the future of Torque lies with TSE...

As far as GG goes, they've made it last over 3 years now, which says a lot all things considered.

In the end, ask yourself this question:

Where else in all the world can you purchase proven technology that has shipped numerous, successful commercial titles for $100 AND get the source code that you can modify in any way you want?

Buy it. You won't be dissapointed.

Torque has been out for four and a half years now. GG has been around for a couple years longer than that. This past year the company grew from around 12 people to 26 employees. We more than doubled in the last year alone =) The company is in great shape, we have awesome stuff in the works for the future, and we aren't going anywhere for a long time!

Well Ryan I am hanging with this engine for the past two years and don't regret single second spent working with it. I practicly learn all what I know today about game development process with TGE. It's a beautifull engine but creating game is a very difficult task and thats where community comes in...and this is one of...no..no...this is THE BEST community I have pleasure to work with!

And yes...GG has grown in the past two years, a lot of add ons, tools and plenty of resources are now available. It's much easier to start with TGE now then two years ago.

GG slowly grows into monster company ;) ...next year should be interesting with all this Xbox360 happenings ;)

I'm too lazy to read the whole thread... Just saw Ryan ask about examples of what others have done. Ryan - Check out the image of the day at the bottom of the main community page. You can check out all ofthem (almost all achieved with Torque) by clicking on General Gallery
