Sky parameters

by Holger · in Torque Game Engine · 12/01/2005 (12:50 pm) · 10 replies

Hello,

I am looking for an explanation of the sky parameters.

I tried to use the sky from stronghold together with a terrain from another game.

But it seems that the sky needs to be "adjusted" in its height.

Standing on the bottom of the terrain I can't see the coulds but flying upwards a little with f8 suddenly I can see the clouds and the blue sky.

Or maybe it's a fog parameter problem?

Thanks for any help

Probably yes, try to increase fog visibility settings, and there is also view distance parameter, try to increase that also.

Denis,

thanks for help but setting both to very high values dosn't help.

And the effect will remain the same: In the moment I fly upwards just a little the clouds will suddenly appear.

I am still wondering what the sky position parameter is good for.

Hmm, just found out that I can see the clouds from the bottom of the terrain when I change the view angle.

Switching to the third person view and looking more down to the feet of the player will also show the sky with clouds and sun.

In first person view the sky will remain foggy.

Try to disable fog completly, or do you have Volumetric fog setup?

What if you climb on higher terrain?

And climbing up a (little) hill will make the sky occur?????

I am using all parameters from stronghold sky but not the terrain....

Is that volumetric?

Denis I found it - it's the fog volume. Setting it to 1 1 1 solved the problem.

Where can I read more about those parameters?

I would like to know what they are all good for.

Sorry Jurgen, my english is not very good so I didn't explain that hill climbing but...well I'll try ;)

Volumetric fog is related to terrain height, so if you climb up the mountine(hill) the fog will remain beneath you....stupid I know..sorry.

The best thing it's probably Ken finney book "3D Game Programming all in one" it's created for newbies with TGE.

You can also search for "fog" here but tweaking and testing with different settings will probably be your best bet. Maybe somebdy else will have better advice.

One more hint:

After you post don't refresh becouase you will repost every time you hit "refresh". Click on the community info and then get back to your post, after that you can refresh as much as you want ;)
