Where's MBU on X360?

by Andrew Stahl · in Marble Blast · 11/29/2005 (7:06 am) · 39 replies

I bought a X360 on launch day, and it's great. One thing that's missing is MBU from the XBL360 arcade among some other XBL360 games. I heard a lot of talk that this would be a launch title. Anyways, I'd just like to know the status of the game? Is MS holding you guys up or something. Thanks for any responces.

Do you have a Demo of it on the PC? Otherwise, I want to try it!

"High definition graphics" is not applicable for the PC. With any modern monitor and graphics card, PCs can change their screen resolution, so you can get resolutions as high as your hardware limits you. High definition (which is generally 1920x1080 resolution) really only applies to TV resolutions and to the resolution of video playback.

"HD" is a TV term. Normal, NTSC format, TV graphics run at 29.7 fps (pretty sure) interlaced, in 640x480. HD has a few modes, there is 480p, 720p, and 1080i (eventually 1080p). 480p is still 640x480, only it's progressive scan instead of interlaced, it looks a lot better. 720p is 1280x720, and 1080i is 1920x1080.

All Xbox 380 games are required to have "High Definition" graphics, and have a 1280x720 mode, and must run in 1080i as well. There is no appreciable (currently) difference between 720p and 1080i. The 1080p thing is something for the future, and it will be a long time before it is "the norm". You can see from the screenshots and such, though, which are captured at 1280x720 (720p) that the game uses very high-resolution textures and geometry, and I feel that it shows off the next generation capabilities of the Xbox 360 (especially the refraction/reflection on the marbles).

You will download it through Xbox 360 Arcade. It is not available on any other platform, currently. It is using TSE technology, and because of that it runs on the PC as well (and it *would* run on the Mac if that part of TSE was finished), however we have not made any announcements on when/if it will be available on anything but the Xbox 360. It is not out of the realm of possibility, as we further develop TSE, but we consistantly have a full plate at GG.

I don't know if that answers any questions very well.

Any word on how long it will take the test team.

Dunno if I'm supposed to answer that or not, but I'd rather not anyway just because I do not know if, say Microsoft always does releases on X day of the week, and if they do, I'd rather not get a reaction of, "Well it was supposed to be out of testing today, did something go wrong," or anything like that.

Being a fan of the first Marble blast on the XBOX arcade and now waiting in agony for Marble Blast Ultra can you give us a little more info on this version of the game. Will we get basically the same maps as before, or are we talking new levels completely? Also any chance of an updated version of Think Tanks coming to the 360, as I did enjoy that game on the XBOX?

It is hard to predict exactly how long testing will take. It is likely that it will be done within the next two weeks, if nothing goes wrong, but it is in no way guaranteed.

Yeah, I must say, the multiplayer is pretty awesome. The single player is okay, not something I see myself becoming addicted to.....but the multiplayer...well it will be the first thing i fire up when i get home from work today, heh.

I've been tracking the official XBox360 forums for MBU since it came out yesterday, and have been extremely pleased with the reception so far!

Here's a representative quote--it's a little fanoi-ish, but pretty consistent with the general tone of the posts so far:

After playing for about an hour I can safely say its the best XBL Arcade game available.

Go GG!
