Reason behind .SGO files

I was wondering why you have encapsulated GUI paths within .SGO files?
The reason I am asking, is that I reorganize the script directories to be easier to manage and download. But forcing the .SGO files to go where you want them is not good for me.
So I am wondering, why you even have .SGO files, or is there a way you can stop including paths within them?

Make sure you've applied this patch Script Update, which eliminates the hard-coded paths.
