I didn't get one because I am saving for a new pc. But will get one next year.
Just curious about any waiting in line stories or feedback on the unit.

How expensive are those things?

No, it's my "consumer side" that isn't interested in consoles. If I want to keep up with the technology behidn the hardware, I can read the spec sheets. If I want to see what's being done with that hardware, I can pop by a buds house our stop at a display in Best Buy, but that is all still purely the developer in me that's interested... the gamer in me has forsaken the controller for a keyboard and mouse, maybe for good. =)

Oh no Scott... you misunderstand me - as an aspiring developer, I'm well aware that consoles are the heart of the market from a fincancial perspective... this is why I practically turned cartwheels when GG landed Marble Blast on XBox Arcade - A HUGE step for indy's. Anyone with a 360 experience the crashes (overheating, hdd, os issues) that some people are complaining about?

I am a gamer and a developer. There are great games on the consoles that are never on the PC, and vice versa. What I really like about the consoles is that when I buy (or rent) a game I know that it is going to work right out of the box. No messing with configurations or downloading patches or drivers. And I don't have to buy every game, I can go down the street and rent just about any game for $5.00 and have it for a week. I think consumers feel the same way, just look at any video game store and see how small the shelves have gotten for PC games. Don't get me wrong, I love PC gaming (Civ IV rox!) and support it whole heartily, but to ignore the consoles is really going to limit you as a developer in this market.

The consumer side of me loves consoles simply because of games like Banjo Kazooie, Devil May Cry, and Katamari Damacy. The developer side of me does as well. The idea of creating a game that you know will work because you're targeting a single piece of hardware rocks.

I'm a fighting game fan and 99.9% of every fighting game I've played for the PC has been 1) horribly unplayable due to crappy keyboard controls or shoddy joypad work (whether on the part of the joypad developer, driver manufacturer, or game developer interfacing between the two) and 2) horribly unsupported and dropped quickly because the afroementioned shoddiness issues. Of course, I also own a huge console library that has never graced the PC...and many of the titles are far above and beyond anything that I've played for the PC in my estimation. On the other hand, I love a number of games on the PC that have either never been on a console or have been badly ported (Rainbow Six for the Dreamcast comes to mind). The consumer side of me loves consoles simply because of games like Banjo Kazooie, Devil May Cry, and Katamari Damacy. I haven't had any over heating, but the 360 generates some serious heat out of its back. While playing Quake 4 the graphics got jerky twice out of knowwere and after that whenever the game did an autosave while while I was going to new areas just like a pc version would usally do.

I'm hopefully going to get one for Christmas, but that suks about the heating and the graphics getting jerky.

Maybe when Fable 2 comes out I'll get one, or an Otogi 3. *crosses fingers*

Hehe, 360 might be an OK system... I'm waiting for PlayStation 3. PS2 always had the games I liked more. Devil May Cry 4...? Sony has already won in my eyes. :)Maybe when Fable 2 comes out I'll get one, or an Otogi 3. *crosses fingers*

At first I was a bit skeptical ... the graphics when looking at screen shots and vids didn't do it justice. There is a a ton of detail and subtle nuances to them. The two games I picked up are really next gen looking and I haven't seen anything yet that looks as good on a PC or elsewhere ... although Perfect Dark varies from looking like a nice N64 game to looking like real time Toy Story ... still when it looks good ... it looks really good! Project Gotham has so much detail that it actually takes time for you to appreciate how much they put into it. The first thing that blew me away was the lighting ... and then I noticed that all the people lining the streets were no longer billboards but instead where full animated characters ... somewhere in the 1,000 - 5,000 poly range (or so it looked) and there were dozens ... maybe hundreds of them. Geometry Wars ... well it was my first XBL Arcade game and only $5 ... it's hellaciously fun and has an online high score board ... can't ask for much more gameplay from a fenski.
The best part about the system is how smoothly integrated all the features are and how you can control anything at anytime from the gamepad. Want to sign onto Xbox Live ... just press the Xbox Logo Button during gameplay and the dashboard comes up ... you can log on seamlessly while playing a game ... everything is just really easy to do with the Xbox Dashboard. The marketplace is also great ... you buy points (either a card in stores ... or charge it to your credit card online) and you can buy Xbox Live Arcade games and a host of other things as well.
Before I played the system I was more amped about PS3 ... and I still am. However, I think that MS has really hit a strong milestone with the 360 ... it's a far better gaming experience than I thought it would be. If Sony doesn't create something that integrates everything into one easy system like the Xbox Dashboard then the PS3 will be miles behind in my eyes just from an accesibility perspective. Going back to the way old systems work the experience of playing games would seem a hassle compared to the way the 360 handles things. MS has a strong shot of taking Sony this generation I think.
Oh yeah and I have to mention for the zillionth time ... the controller is just so damn comfortable!

After having the system for a day and spending a decent amount of time with PGR3, PDZ ... and Geometry Wars (where's Marble Blast Ultra again?) I can safely say the system is great! At first I was a bit skeptical ... the graphics when looking at screen shots and vids didn't do it justice. There is a a ton of detail and subtle nuances to them. Theres a lot of upset 360 owners... machines crashing after about 10 minutes.
I might wait until late next year before I think about getting one.

I haven't had any crashing problems and my fiance plays PGR3 for hours. I always play PDZ and I haven't had any freeze ups on that game either. Guess they got a faulty batch :S

I guess that's a little mean. But I thought it was kinda funny.
Sorry, back into the whole I go!

You mean these people don't understand that the air vent in the back is for air to escape??? LOL. They deserve to have their units overheat.I guess that's a little mean. But I thought it was kinda funny.

Put it on something that it makes most of the supply of the ground, so that air can freely roam around it.
It usually helps for the people having problems with it, although not that many has really.

The heating/freezing problem on some consoles is usually caused by the Power Supply overheating.Put it on something that it makes most of the supply of the ground, so that air can freely roam around it.

That power supply issue is strange because I haven't had any issues with any of the dev hardware power supplies. Oh well *shrug*
