Desert Eagle .50

This is for my new project; Inertia: A Mind At Rest. This is my first completed model done with Maya, or any 3d app. I have done some other work, but nothing finished. I got in game fine and everything, 1,500 polys. Just need to get the character to hold it. then I need to start working the actual main character; Christopher Criss-Cross. I was going to put this in the .plan but I thought I would make the next better in terms of releasing media and news.

Anywho, any comments or crits?

Thanks!

Wow. That is excellent. At first, before reading the post, I thought it was a photo.

As far as the game goes, is 1500 polys for a player weapon a little high? I know you got it in-game, but perhaps lowering the count a little?

Not sure. If it works, then great! I don't know what kind of app you're making, but I still like the model.

1500 should be ok as long as he does some good LOD work for the other players that are concerned. Computers really are getting to the point where the "low poly" counts can start to move higher if you plan accordingly. I know some people who did some tests on a fairly standard system and they were able to get about 60k poly's shown on screen at once before severe frame loss.

Are those done from photo's? I always thought when I saw a DE .50 cal that the barrell was longer or perhaps they have a few different versions. All I know is I could never afford one without feeling guilty at a 1-1.5k price tag but it would be a hell of a toy.

Thanks everyone! :D Your all too kind!

I dont know for poly count, I thought 1500 was good? lol I am very new to making models for games, or even making models. what is the suggested poly count for a

Character :=
Weapon :=
Asset(box,lamp, desk,etc) :=
Car(or something bigger) :=

Thanks! It would be a great help! :D

I am currently doing the AR-10. I will post a render soonish, maybe 2 hours!

Thanks again!

Take Care!

Poly count really depends on your game and target machine. Is it a single-player, multi-player? How large is the world? blah blah blah...
If you do end up having to scale down the poly count, might I suggest getting some good normal (assuming TSE) and bump maps of your high-poly models first... That way you should be able to retain a lot of the detail of the high-poly model on your lower-poly in-game model.

Oh man how people can make such excellent work? (on the modeling side only, not the game)
