Questions about scale?

by Dreamer · in RTS Starter Kit · 11/03/2005 (4:11 pm) · 2 replies

I have just purchased the RTS kit, finally and have just a quick question before I proceed with converting my models and etc for use with it.
In the RTS kit, is the scale still the same as in FPS? The reason I ask is because going through the demo, the world at least seemed much, much smaller.

Thoughts?

I don't think the landscape/world is smaller. But the characters and objects are slightly smaller and have lower polycount.

Yes, the world in the default mission that comes with the RTS SK is indeed smaller, if I understand things correctly. The terrain control points are set to be 5 meters apart, rather than the typical 8 meters apart. There are 256 control points so you get 1280 x 1280 meters of non-repeating landscape, instead of the normal 2048 x 2048 meters.

I think the scale change is only a property of the RTS SK's default mission, and not of the engine. You should be able to create a new mission/terrain with the normal 8 meter control points and have the noraml 2048 x 2048 world.
