Project Mouse :)

Hi!

I been playing with this idea for quite a while now so basicly this is it.

This is the game of cat and mouse. Main character is mouse and has desire to eat every day. Mouse is fast and very agile (can make hard turns without sliding). Cat is bigger, little faster then mouse but in hard turns it slides a little bit and lose some speed. Also mouse can climb any surface (almost any), while cat can't go nothing over 80 degrees or anything other then wood surfaces (that should give mouse a little advantage). But cat is able to jump (pretty far with some speed)

Also mouse will have other obstacles (like mouse trap, glue and whatever else I could think of). I have yet to figure out what kind of obstacles for cat should be created :) something with water (mouse can swimm, or something else). Also mouse will be able tu run in every hole in that room, and if cat is in full speed with a little help of sliding cat should slam in the wall and few seconds have blured screen (or something like that).
Mouse will have something like 6 sense (when cat is close he will be warned).

I am trying to create somekind "cheese hunting mod" which is basicly cat has to prevent mouse from taking all the cheese in the kitchen/house/from the fridge, but mouse has to pickup cheese in exact order.

I want to create this to be cartoon like/funny game (no actuall killing), also I want to create in 3D (3d person view <-not sure bout this, have to prototype first)

So, I am evaluating engine changes/addons that should be required. I want to do this with TGE so if anybody have any suggestion, or if you think that something of this would be very difficult to achive in TGE then please let me know. Also if there are any artist/modeler/programmer that are interesting in working in this kind of project let me know. I am wiling to pay for your work.

Anyway I am open to a suggestions...If you think this idea sucks feel free to say that :)

P.S. Sorry for my Enlish but it's not my native language :)

Don't apologize for your English. It's good enough to explain your idea, and it's better than some native speakers!

This sounds like a very fun idea. It would be fun to sort of get to be Tom and Jerry (the cartoon).

My suggestion is to use vehicles. I don't know how much modification would be needed for legs in stead of wheels, but it would give better control of things already implemented in the engine (friction, speed, weight, etc.)

Let us know when you get this started!

It shouldn't be a problem, just a few vars changed in the scripting, and the model without weels. The only problem there may be the changing of speed in animations, but there must be something I don't see because everything can be done easily with Torque. :P

Interesting idea--in fact I wanted to do the same type of thing for a self-imposed Game in a Day on Torque 2D that I tentatively called Housecat!.

I never did get around to implementation, but I personally think something along these lines would be quite fun!

@Andrew, Yes I was thinking of something like that, vehicles instead of legs (mostly becouase sliding)

@Mr. Pig, I belive that torque is (with help of few resources) ready for this kind of game (it's basicly FPS) :) thats why I decided to go with this project

@Stephen, I was thinking about T2D also, even started to prototype in it, but I think that fun lies in 3D, small mouse and big kitchen + living room with lot of obstacles :) It just sounds fun :)

BTW Stephen you got some neat ideas obout cat view distance, and something like 6 sense for mouse I was thinking. But I am not really sure if I can limit view per player (not globaly) but individualy.

Good luck if you go for it.

Hey, i think it would be coolest (and not at all as messy) if the game would be side-scrolling, but still 3D.

Anyway, sounds real great!!!

You got my good opinion, now every1 else, your turn ;-P

BTW, is this game gonna be 100% Real time, or is it like Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, and so on?

If you actually get this started (i.e. have things running around in code etc) I'd be happy to help with models and graphics.

Fun, I've been having (almost) exactly the same idea. Alhough, I'm more into sneek-em-up style.
(One thing that I wanted to explore was the relative size between cat and mouse, in other words the same map but seen from a different scales and the game play oppotunaties that could come out of that difference (like rat hole for instance).

I love to help out on this project, all though I still regard myself a Torque newbee.
I'm mostly about coding but have played a bit with mapping, still waits for a non-QuARK tool on the mapping side though ;-)

The problem from my part is time, at the moment I extremelly busy with non-game projects,
so it's a question of how available I'm when you would need me.
If your interested I can discuss it "off list" :-)

I was thinking of same thing Johan, maybe we should join forces :)

Fell free to email me if you want to discuss this further.

Thanks.

@Everyone else

Thanks for the support and your opinion guys, I am very busy at this time so forgive me if it take a little time for me to response.
