Ati X800gt

Hello,

I dont mean to be a pest, but I wanted to see if theres something terribly wrong or if what im seeing
isnt as out of the ordinary as I think it is.

Im running TSE, both the starter.fps port and the water_demo on my system and with any interiors or models in view,
I get about 7-13 FPS. Without them in view i can get up to 30.

I have a P4 2.8, 512RAM, ATI x800, so hardware wise I think this should be running like a top. Is there anything up with interiors ad models that I couldnt find while I was searching?

Thank you much!

Hi Ian,

AFAIK TSE still has some issues with rendering skins and some issue with legacy terrain rendering.

BUT: the framerates you are mentioning are even worst than on my old Geforce 3 so i dont think that this might be it. Can you run other newer games fluid? How does framerate perform if you fix it to the SM 1.1 pipeline? Which drivers are you using? Are you running in Debug mode?

Oh ... btw. Do you use X800 or X800 GT? Topic Heading says X800 GT but your text just says X800

I use a 9800 pro and get WAY more than that with a whole bunch of planes on screen.

Might be a driver issue. Seems there is something weird going on with skinning etc. But check your drivers first.

The other games ive run have been running VERY well. I used to have a geforce fx 5200 and invested in the x800GT for my TSE development soley.

do you mean shader model? Ill have to try and specify it to 2, then 1.4 then 1.1 i guess and see how that works out. ll post how it works out.

-Which drivers are you using?

Latest drivers from ATI. Any recommendations on hwere to grab good drivers?

-Are you running in Debug mode?

I compiled in Debug, would compiling with release make THAT huge of a difference?

very huge difference, in debug I get 20-30fps, in release 90-100fps

I see no performance difference running in debug mode compared to release on my GeForce 6800. Both builds perform awesome when the Orc is not in view, at 250-300 FPS. Although, when the Orc does get in view, it takes me down to about 30-50 FPS.

Fixed it. Out of ideas, I reinstalled the October 2005 directx sdk, and recompiled. Presto!
