Outdoor level design

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any tutorials about designing levels for outdoor environments? I can find plenty teaching how to build a single room, or a corridor etc. but I can't find any explaining about terrain and outdoor design!

I would prefer if the tutorial used 3D World Studio, Hammer Editor or something with that kind of interface :)

Thanks,
Matthew Grint

Hammer doesn't support terrain. 3D World Studio doesn't have it implemented yet, but when it does, there will be extensive tutorials and documentation for doing just this.

What about the terrain editor included in with the engine?

I will say that the Editor included with Torque is not bad... you might have to model some of your own mountains in Max/Maya/MS3d and place them but its a great way to get a chunk of terrain up and going quickly. Now if I could just find a way to hook them together seemlessly ;P

Hay there,

Ok version 5.35 for 3dws is up and running with the Terrain gen working pretty darn good atm. Search the post for isues people are playing with. There will be or allready is Tuts deloping I think if you can't figure it out. But so far as I can see it is a pretty no brainer for using it now. Or it was for me when I played with it.

As for the Mountains seemless to terrain issue, well what I would do is put allot of grass, Trees, brush, rocks of some kind to hide that line you get, or make it part of the design. But remember that the mountain .dts mesh will slow that game down allot I bet. at least with the good working TGE version 1.35 we have as 1.4 isn't quit finished yet. I think, haven't checked in a few weeks. We have added mountains to our Sky's where it is importent as our fix. You never get there to the mountains, but they sure look good and don't have those lines your talking about.
