Purchasing the engine for a programmer

I'm moving forward on my secret project, but in order to hire a programmer, I need to purchase him the TGE liscence.
Is there some way that I can buy this to my own account so that if he were to quit (or disappear), I would remain in control of the source and could give it out to someone else?
The biggest problem I see is that he could keep the source code and use it for his own project, after all contact is lost.
I understand that the liscence is non-transferable... but what if I remained, legally, in control of it.

Since I only have one programmer, the commercial license seems like a waste of money.
Many thanks for the help!
I'd hate to think that this kind of license restriction would prevent my use of the engine.

A cheaper solution would be to get him under contract, I guess. It still costs me $100 if he leaves the project...Since I only have one programmer, the commercial license seems like a waste of money.

Buy the commercial license and maintain programmer control of the source. It is a per-seat license rather than an individual license.

David is correct. One of the main differences between the commercial and indie license is that the commercial license is for your company and allows you to keep control of it even if your programmer changes.

I'll seek out people who have already purchased the independent license.
Thanks, all of you, for helping me out.

That extra $400/programmer wasn't in the budget, unfortunately.I'll seek out people who have already purchased the independent license.

From the EULA:
You might want to get in touch with GarageGames personally for this. Perhaps the commercial license would allow you to do something like that.
